Job description
HI THERE!
We're Sweed sweedpos.com, a product-driven startup building an all-in-one cannabis retail platform. We're looking for a Product Owner to join our team remotely and help us scale and optimize our platform.
ABOUT US
At Sweed, we’re reimagining how cannabis retailers operate. Our enterprise-grade platform combines POS, eCommerce, Marketing, Analytics and Inventory Management into a single, seamless solution—eliminating the need for multiple third-party tools.
We believe in simplicity, efficiency, and innovation. That’s why we build for scalability and performance, making life easier for cannabis retailers while driving real business growth.
WHY WE’RE DOING THIS
At Sweed, we believe in the medicinal potential of cannabis. It has been shown to help with chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and many other conditions. Despite the lingering stigma, we see cannabis as a powerful tool for improving lives.
The industry is evolving rapidly, and we’re here to drive that transformation—making cannabis retail more efficient, accessible, and customer-friendly.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
We’ve been on the market for 7 years, continuously growing and refining our product.
Our focus is on earning customer trust, which means constantly improving our delivery processes and rolling out new features. At the same time, we navigate the complex legal landscape of the cannabis industry, ensuring our platform remains compliant and future-proof.
TEAM STRUCTURE
Our total team size is over 200 people:
The development team is distributed globally and organized into cross-functional product teams. These teams typically consist of 8–12 members, including front-end and back-end developers, QA specialists, and analysts.
Each team is led by a Team Lead and a Product Owner, ensuring effective collaboration and clear direction.
Meanwhile, our CEO, account managers, and customer success team are based in the USA, working closely with us to align product development with business and user needs.
WHY WE’RE HIRING
We’re strengthening our product organization and looking for experienced Product Owners who can take ownership of meaningful product areas and help us scale the platform.
Our current focus spans several core product areas: eCommerce, Marketing, and Portal. eCommerce and Marketing cover customer-facing experiences such as online shopping, checkout, promotions, loyalty, and customer engagement. Portal is the operational backbone of the platform, where retailers manage inventory, payments, integrations, compliance-related workflows, settings, and other day-to-day store operations.
We’re not looking for someone who will simply manage a backlog or coordinate delivery. We need a strong product thinker who can take a complex and ambiguous business problem, create clarity around it, define the right direction, and own the result from discovery through launch and iteration.
The exact product area may depend on your background and strengths. For a genuinely strong candidate, we’re open to shaping a broader scope of responsibility.
WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON
- Own a product area end-to-end: from identifying and validating a problem through planning, delivery, launch, and evaluation of the result.
- Turn complex and ambiguous business challenges into clear product opportunities, priorities, and actionable plans.
- Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand the underlying business problem instead of simply converting incoming requests into features.
- Define the product vision, roadmap, priorities, scope, and expected outcomes for your area.
- Conduct product discovery, validate assumptions, and evaluate different solution options before committing engineering resources.
- Work closely with a dedicated cross-functional engineering team throughout planning and execution.
- Balance customer needs, product strategy, technical constraints, commercial priorities, and long-term scalability.
- Make practical prioritization and scope decisions, including trade-offs between speed, quality, customer urgency, and long-term product value.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Design, Sales, Customer Success, Analytics, and company leadership.
- Keep stakeholders aligned through clear communication, transparent decision-making, and proactive expectation management.
- Evaluate what happens after launch and use customer feedback, product data, and business outcomes to determine whether the solution worked and what should happen next.
- Identify problems and opportunities independently, initiate improvements, and take responsibility for moving them forward.
- Help Sweed develop scalable product solutions that can support new customer segments, markets, and industries.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Approximately 5+ years of relevant experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager. We care more about the quality and depth of your experience than an exact number of years.
- Meaningful experience building B2B SaaS or another complex B2B technology product.
- Direct experience working with external customers. Experience focused exclusively on internal products is unlikely to be a fit.
- Proven end-to-end product ownership covering discovery, solution definition, validation, planning, delivery, launch, and evaluation.
- Experience working directly with a dedicated engineering team.
- Product experience in eCommerce is our strongest preference. FinTech is also highly relevant, as are other complex B2B SaaS or enterprise products with sophisticated business logic, high transaction volumes, or interconnected product ecosystems.
- Strong logical and structured thinking.
- Ability to break ambiguous problems into manageable parts and identify what information is missing before proposing a solution.
- Ability to separate a customer or business problem from a specific requested feature.
- Strong product judgment and the ability to explain the reasoning and trade-offs behind your decisions.
- High level of ownership, independence, and personal accountability.
- Strong execution skills: you can move from an idea to a delivered and measurable result.
- Clear communication and proactive expectation management.
- Confidence working with Engineering, business stakeholders, leadership, and international customers.
- Comfort working in a dynamic environment with changing priorities and incomplete information.
- English at B2+ level or higher, including the ability to discuss complex topics, present decisions, and work with US-based stakeholders.
WHAT OWNERSHIP MEANS TO US
We’re looking for someone who:
- notices problems and opportunities without waiting for them to be assigned;
- asks the right questions before jumping to a solution;
- can clearly explain their personal contribution and decisions, not only what the wider team did;
- understands how product work connects to customer and business results;
- follows an initiative through execution and launch rather than stopping after discovery or ideation;
- communicates early when the scope, timing, or expected outcome is at risk;
- makes progress in uncertain situations without waiting for detailed instructions;
- challenges stakeholders constructively when a requested solution does not address the real problem;
- takes responsibility for the outcome, not only for completing a particular part of the process;
- can openly discuss unsuccessful decisions, lessons learned, and what they would do differently.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with retail technology, POS, Marketing Technology, Loyalty, or customer engagement products.
- Experience working in both a mature product company and a startup or high-growth environment.
- Experience launching a new product, business, or major product direction.
- Experience working directly with US customers.
- Familiarity with product analytics, experimentation, and customer research in a B2B environment.
- Practical experience using AI tools for research, analysis, prototyping, or other parts of the product workflow.
WHAT ELSE MATTERS?
- Product thinking — You start with the problem, customer context, and expected outcome rather than immediately jumping to features.
- Execution focus — You can define a direction and then work closely with the team to turn it into a real product.
- Entrepreneurial mindset — You identify opportunities, propose solutions, and find a way forward without relying on a rigid process.
- Structured thinking — You can organize incomplete and conflicting information, identify missing context, and explain your reasoning clearly.
- Adaptability — You can adjust your approach when priorities, customer needs, or market conditions change.
- Communication — You make progress, decisions, risks, and dependencies visible to the people around you.
- Business judgment — You understand that a B2B product needs to balance long-term strategy with customer and commercial realities.
- Accountability — You are comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility for the result.
WHY JOIN SWEED?
- Real product influence — You will have the opportunity to shape product direction, not only manage an existing backlog.
- Space for initiative — If you identify an important opportunity, demonstrate its business value, and are ready to own it, you can turn it into a real product investment.
- Ambitious scale — We’re preparing the platform for further growth, new markets, and new industries.
- Direct customer impact — Your decisions can influence retailers’ revenue, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
- Meaningful ownership — Strong Product Owners can expand their scope and take responsibility for larger product areas based on their impact.
- Complex product challenges — You’ll work with a connected platform that combines multiple retail products and business processes.
- International environment — You’ll collaborate with a globally distributed team and US-based customers and stakeholders.
