Job description
Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. The Amazon Leo Security team owns the security of product and operations end-to-end. We provide the necessary infrastructure and mechanisms to ensure the security of our satellite constellation and to protect the integrity and confidentiality of our customer data. Our team drives the research & development, deployment and operation of several mission-critical security systems and mechanisms. You will work in a start-up like environment, backed by Amazon’s infrastructure to bootstrap security mechanisms, and help instill the security culture in the organization.
Export Control Requirement
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will:
* Be proactive in removing roadblocks, fostering innovation, and managing multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, driving continuous improvement and efficiency.
* Create, optimize, and support cross-functional working groups and projects, fostering collaboration and synergy across departments to enhance security capabilities.
* Manage tight deadlines with precision and drive results, exhibiting exceptional attention to detail and ensuring the successful completion of projects and initiatives.
* Own the program lifecycle for large, complex security initiatives spanning multiple teams and VP organizations, including mission, vision, tenets, and roadmap contributions.
* Partner with security engineers and senior technical leaders to perform program-level design reviews and risk assessments and ensure architectural choices appropriately balance short-term needs with long-term security posture.
* Develop and maintain program mechanisms – including risk registers, review processes, and reporting structures – to ensure security risks are tracked, escalated, and remediated in partnership with risk owners.
* Simplify and streamline cross-functional processes to increase selections velocity and reduce friction for solution teams.
* Collect, analyze, and synthesize data from a variety of sources to create compelling written and verbal communications for Director and VP-level audiences, including Amazon 6-pagers and Monthly Program Reviews.
* Build consensus among discordant views, escalate effectively, and ensure business and technical stakeholder needs are aligned across the program.
A day in the life
In this role you'll work with a team of engineers, managers, and TPMs. You'll help identify business security priorities, mechanisms to address the security of Leo's products and services, and will work with partners and builder teams to simplify risk mitigation.
You will influence the security strategy of partner teams to optimize security outcomes for our customers. You'll participate in hiring, development, training of team members. You'll own a part of the team outcome and will be encouraged to grow your ownership and role.
About the team
Diverse Experiences Amazon Security values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.
Why Amazon Security?
At Amazon, security is central to maintaining customer trust and delivering delightful customer experiences. Our organization is responsible for creating and maintaining a high bar for security across all of Amazon’s products and services. We offer talented security professionals the chance to accelerate their careers with opportunities to build experience in a wide variety of areas including cloud, devices, retail, entertainment, healthcare, operations, and physical stores.
What We're Looking For
You thrive in ambiguity and create clarity for others. You have experience managing programs spanning distributed systems, security infrastructure, or compliance-driven initiatives. You understand security controls, vulnerability management, SAST and DAST scanning systems well enough to have informed technical conversations and spot opportunities early. You manage through influence, not authority. You work across organizations with different priorities and build alignment. You communicate crisply to senior leadership, distinguishing signal from noise. You build mechanisms that scale: dashboards, status cadences, escalation paths, and dependency trackers that outlast any individual program review.
Inclusive Team Culture
In Amazon Security, it’s in our nature to learn and be curious. Ongoing DEI events and learning experiences inspire us to continue learning and to embrace our uniqueness. Addressing the toughest security challenges requires that we seek out and celebrate a diversity of ideas, perspectives, and voices.
