Job description

WHO WE ARE: We believe that open-source software, open standards and APIs are the greatest transformational tools for organizations in the modern software development era. Our mission at Diagrid is to provide developers with APIs and tools that help them focus on their code and not on infrastructure. As online digital services need to handle more load and run on multiple clouds or on-premises environments, programming to higher level abstractions delivers consistent, secure and reliable code that is easily portable and helps organizations de-risk their projects. Diagrid is founded by the creators of the Dapr dapr.io and KEDA keda.sh open-source projects, and who led the user experience, design and development of hyper-scale infrastructure cloud services, serverless platforms and open-source projects at Microsoft. Dapr has now achieved graduated status within the CNCF, joining renowned projects like Kubernetes, Prometheus, and Istio. We are backed by top VC firms and supported with industry leading investors and advisors including Joe Beda (Kubernetes Co-Founder, former Co-Founder / CTO at Heptio) Matt Klein (Creator of Envoy, Lyft), Mark Russinovich (CTO, Microsoft Azure), William Morgan (Creator of Linkerd, CEO Buoyant), Seth Vargo (Senior Staff Engineer, Google), Adam Gross (Former CEO, Heroku), Sri Viswanath (Former CTO, Atlassian), Adam Frankl (Dev Marketing Expert, Neo4J & JFrog), and Roopak Venkatakrishnan (Head of platforms, Bolt). ABOUT THE TEAM The Developer Experience team at Diagrid is obsessed with making distributed applications radically simpler and more reliable for developers worldwide. We steward the wildly popular open-source Dapr project (CNCF) while driving adoption of Diagrid’s commercial platform (Diagrid Catalyst) that brings production-grade reliability and security for AI agents. Our mission is to make AI agents reliable and secure for the Dapr and Diagrid community. We create inspiring demos, technical content, events, and tools that turn developers into advocates and help them ship faster, more resilient systems. ABOUT THE ROLE As a Developer Relations Engineer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, you will be the public face and community heartbeat of Dapr and Diagrid. You’ll own community growth, content creation, and developer engagement end-to-end. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role for someone who loves coding in public, building communities, and turning complex distributed systems + AI agent concepts into approachable, delightful experiences. You will report work closely with Engineering, Product, Marketing, Sales, and the broader open-source maintainer team. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Grow the Dapr OSS Community: Drive contributor growth, engagement, and adoption metrics across GitHub, Discord, and other channels. - Moderate & Nurture the Ecosystem: Actively moderate the Dapr Discord (and future community platforms), answer technical questions, recognize contributors, and foster a welcoming, high-signal environment. - Create Compelling Content: Write high-quality blog posts for the Dapr blog and Diagrid Catalyst, produce tutorials, architectural guides, and sample applications showcasing Dapr + AI agents, workflows, state management, service invocation, and more. - Lead Webinars & Live Sessions: Proactively plan and deliver technical webinars, workshops, and live demos on a regular cadence. - Manage YouTube & Video Presence: Own the Dapr/Diagrid YouTube channel — script, record, edit, and publish videos, demos, and recordings of community events. - Coordinate Events & Meetups: Help organize and host Dapr Meetups, Dapr Days, conference talks, and community events in the Bay Area and globally (with travel as needed). - Build Diagrid Demos & Tools: Create sample applications, starters, and reference architectures that demonstrate best practices for Dapr in production and AI agent use cases. - Gather Feedback & Influence Product: Act as the voice of the developer community — surface friction points, feature requests, and success stories to Engineering and Product teams. - Represent Diagrid publicly: Speak at conferences, participate in podcasts, engage on social media (X, LinkedIn, etc.), and be a trusted advocate for Dapr and Diagrid. YOU MIGHT THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU - Have prior Developer Relations, Developer Advocate, or Community Manager experience. - Have 5+ years of software engineering experience, with strong hands-on knowledge of distributed systems, cloud-native technologies, Kubernetes, or microservices. - Are deeply familiar with Dapr (or similar projects like Temporal, Camunda, Orkes, etc.) and excited about its future in the AI agent era. - Love creating content and have a track record of blogs, videos, talks, or open-source contributions that gained traction. - Excel at community building — you’ve moderated Discords/Slack, grown OSS projects, or run successful meetup groups. - Are a strong communicator who can explain complex topics (stateful workflows, actor models, sidecar architecture, LLM orchestration) clearly and enthusiastically. - Enjoy shipping code publicly and building demos with Python, Go, TypeScript, or .NET. - Thrive in a fast-moving startup environment with high ownership and evolving priorities. - Are based in the San Francisco Bay Area. NICE-TO-HAVES - Speaking experience at conferences (KubeCon, Microsoft Build, etc.). - Experience with AI agents, LangChain/LlamaIndex, or workflow orchestration. - Existing relationships in the cloud-native or AI developer communities.
