Job description

Advanced Drainage Systems is a leading manufacturer of stormwater and onsite septic wastewater solutions, committed to sustainability and innovation. With a vast manufacturing and distribution network, we deliver high-quality products across multiple industries while recycling over half a billion pounds of plastic annually. At ADS, we foster a culture where diverse perspectives drive better ideas, ensuring every employee feels valued, heard, and empowered to make an impact. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who combines deep software fundamentals with fluency in building and working alongside AI agents. You'll use AI to design, build, modernize, and operate reliable, scalable full-stack applications on the Microsoft stack — C#/.NET on the backend and TypeScript/React on the front end — creating high-quality software faster. As a senior engineer, you'll own complex projects end-to-end, raise the engineering bar across the team, and mentor others in both strong fundamentals and the effective use of AI in software development. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain applications across the Microsoft stack — C#/.NET on the backend and TypeScript/React on the front end. • Integrate applications with enterprise and external systems (e.g., Oracle, MuleSoft) through well-designed RESTful APIs. • Direct AI coding agents to implement, test, and refactor features, while owning the design decisions and the quality of what ships. • Build and maintain the team's AI-native tooling: custom instructions, prompt files, custom agents, and Agent Skills. • Apply context engineering and multi-agent workflows to assemble the right context and guardrails for reliable, production-ready code. • Review AI-generated and human-written code for correctness, security, performance, and architectural integrity. • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, and deploy to Microsoft Azure (App Service, Entra ID, Key Vault, Application Insights). • Ensure the security, performance, and scalability of web applications across the stack. • Participate in and lead code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers. • Mentor engineers in both software fundamentals and AI-native practices, and keep up with new tools and practices. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent experience. • 5+ years of professional software development experience, including senior-level ownership of projects end-to-end. • Strong proficiency in C# and .NET (ASP.NET Core), including Clean Architecture, Entity Framework Core, and dependency injection. • Strong proficiency in front-end development with TypeScript and React, including state management (Redux Toolkit) and modern build tooling (Vite). • Hands-on experience working in an AI-native way: using custom instructions, prompt files, custom agents, and Agent Skills; orchestrating multi-agent workflows; and applying context engineering. • Experience with cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure (App Service, Entra ID, Key Vault, Application Insights). • Knowledge of database management systems, particularly SQL Server. • Understanding of RESTful API design and enterprise integration patterns. • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including GitHub Actions and CI/CD pipelines. • Proficiency in version control systems, particularly Git and GitHub. • Experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., xUnit, Jest, Playwright). • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong communication and collaboration. Preferred Skills • Experience extending AI tooling — building custom agents, Agent Skills, or Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations that other engineers rely on. • Spec-driven development — authoring clear, testable specifications that drive AI agents to implement, verify, and iterate on features. • Application modernization — re-platforming and incrementally modernizing legacy applications onto current .NET, cloud, and Clean Architecture standards. • DevSecOps — embedding automation, quality, and security across the delivery lifecycle: CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, and reliable release strategies (blue-green/canary). • Experience in manufacturing and/or supply chain-domain experience. Skills & Competencies • Creative Problem Solving: Solve complex technical challenges and apply technology, including AI, to novel business problems. • Rapid Delivery: Quickly build, iterate on, and ship production-quality software, increasingly with AI assistance. • Engineering Judgment: Make sound architectural decisions and critically evaluate AI-generated output for correctness, security, and quality. • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product managers, designers, and business partners to align solutions with user needs. • Technical Communication: Explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. • Mentorship: Mentor engineers and contribute to a culture of learning and continuous improvement. • User-Centric Design: Build software that augments users and improves their experience. #LI-CH1 #LI-Onsite Health & Welfare Benefits: Medical and prescription drug plans, telemedicine (with medical plan), High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) and Health Savings Account (HSA), dental and vision plans, virtual physical therapy*, an employee assistance program (EAP)*, and voluntary accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnification programs. Financial Benefits: Retirement 401k program with company match, an employee stock purchase plan (voluntary), financial wellness planning*, paid parental leave*, flexible spending accounts (FSA) for child care and health care, short-term and long-term disability*, basic life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D)*, adoption financial reimbursement*, tuition reimbursement*, voluntary life insurance (for employees, spouses, and children), and voluntary identity theft and fraud protection. *100% paid by ADS.
