Job Title: Senior Software Developer – IBM i / RPG.
Location: Remote (Client located in Blue Bell, PA).
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099).
About the Opportunity:
ZipStaff is seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer with expertise in IBM iSeries (AS/400) and RPG to support critical backend systems for a major healthcare analytics and payment integrity organization.
This role focuses on bridging robust IBM i backends with modern web architectures. You will modernize RPG codebases using Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing while exposing high-volume DB2 datasets to web applications. The work ensures reliability of legacy systems while enabling the speed of modern digital healthcare solutions.
What You’ll Do:
• Design, develop, and maintain software solutions bridging IBM iSeries backends with modern web architectures.
• Modernize RPG codebases through Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
• Expose high-volume DB2 datasets to web applications while ensuring reliability of legacy systems.
• Apply software engineering best practices including continuous integration, unit testing, refactoring, and code reviews.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum techniques throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Work with DB2 and SQL Server databases to support data access and integration needs.
• Contribute to the full development lifecycle from design through production support in a healthcare analytics environment.
Required Qualifications:
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on IBM iSeries (AS/400) environments.
• Demonstrated proficiency with the RPG programming language.
• Working knowledge of DB2 and SQL Server databases.
• 2–3+ years of experience with software engineering best practices, including continuous integration, unit testing, refactoring, and code reviews.
• Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle methodologies, with specific exposure to or participation in Agile/Scrum techniques.
• Ability to work remotely.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience modernizing RPG codebases and exposing DB2 data to modern web or digital applications.
• Prior work supporting high-volume data systems in a healthcare, analytics, or payment integrity environment.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
• Background bridging legacy IBM i systems with modern architectures.
