Job description

The Company PayPal has been revolutionizing commerce globally for more than 25 years. Creating innovative experiences that make moving money, selling, and shopping simple, personalized, and secure, PayPal empowers consumers and businesses in approximately 200 markets to join and thrive in the global economy. We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers. We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards. Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade. Our beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day. We live each day guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do – and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities. Job Summary: We are seeking a highly strategic, creative, and data-oriented Senior Manager, Product Marketing to lead product marketing for Venmo’s Commerce business, specifically small business owners, solopreneurs, and micro-sellers (sub-$100K in annual sales) who are building their livelihoods through Venmo, and the communities of customers who show up for them. This individual will report directly into the Director, Product Marketing, Venmo and will play a pivotal role in shaping the overall product vision, strategy, positioning, and go-to-market for Venmo’s Commerce products. The ideal candidate is an experienced marketing leader in this Commerce space with proven success with this target merchant audience. Job Description: Essential Responsibilities: • Lead complex marketing projects and initiatives to drive business growth • Resolve complex marketing problems and develop innovative solutions • Determine methods and procedures for new marketing assignments • Implement global process improvements to enhance marketing effectiveness • Collaborate with senior leadership to align marketing strategies with business goals • Provide thought leadership and expertise in marketing best practices Minimum Qualifications: • 8+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications : About the team: “Just Venmo me.” You may have heard or used this phrase before. Venmo has verb-status and is deeply woven as a brand into the social fabric of our culture. But Venmo isn’t just about payments. It’s about community. It’s where your money finds meaning as you share, connect, and split purchases with friends and loved ones. People love sending money and paying with Venmo, and we've come a long way from our humble beginnings as a P2P app. Millions of users have now also made products such as the Venmo Debit Card a part of their lives, and there’s so much more we can do as their go-to for simple, social and rewarding payments. Many small business owners already use Venmo as a Consumer, and this Commerce-specific work evolves the way they view Venmo — from a place to send and receive money, to the ecosystem that helps them build their business: from payment acceptance and backend tools to run their business efficiently, to helping them get discovered by new customers, build repeat relationships, and grow — without asking them to learn a new system or their customers to leave the app they already use. The Venmo Marketing team is a critical driver of Venmo’s growth trajectory, and the Product Marketing team specifically steers Venmo’s orientation to our customers via a deep understanding of the external landscape and strategic delivery of our evolving value proposition across all channels and partnerships. As a Product Marketing Lead, you will be responsible for crafting product marketing vision and narrative, partnering closely with cross-functional teams across Venmo on inbound and outbound product marketing initiatives to deliver on Venmo’s strategic goals. Additional Responsibilities: • Two-Sided Product Strategy & Positioning: Develop and refine positioning, messaging, and value propositions for Venmo’s Commerce products — speaking distinctly and credibly to both the micro sellers and solopreneurs who run their business through Venmo, and the customers who discover and support them. • Go-to-Market Leadership Across the Seller Lifecycle: Lead the end-to-end go-to-market strategy for Commerce, building marketing around how small business owners actually operate, including product launches, feature updates, and ongoing marketing campaigns to drive awareness, consideration, adoption, and growth. • Market Insights & Competitive Analysis: Bring firsthand fluency in both sides of this two-sided marketplace — the small, often one-person business, and consumers discovering, following, and being loyal to small businesses in their community. Partner with Consumer Insights on market research and competitive analyses to inform product development and marketing strategies, staying ahead of industry trends to identify new opportunities. • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Commercial, Design, Consumer Insights, and other key Commerce partners to align on product vision, roadmap, and market needs. Act as the voice of the customer in product development discussions. • Creative Excellence: Work with your Marketing and Creative counterparts to uphold creative excellence throughout your campaigns. • Performance Metrics & Optimization: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) across both sides of the Commerce business (seller/consumer) and measure the success of product marketing initiatives. Use data-driven insights to optimize campaigns and inform future strategies. Partner with Marketing Analytics to post-mortem launches and set us up for a successful learning agenda. • Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor a team of more junior product marketing managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. • Stakeholder Management: Effectively engage senior stakeholders across the company, keeping them informed about performance and quickly escalating and unblocking any challenges. Preferred Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field; MBA preferred. • You have 8-10 years of product marketing experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, ideally within tech, fintech, or consumer digital products. • Direct experience marketing to small businesses, sellers, or merchants: ideally within a two-sided marketplace, commerce platform, or local/social commerce business. • Strong understanding of, and demonstrated ability to market to, two distinct audiences at once: sellers and consumers, with messaging tailored to each. • Proven track record of successfully launching and growing digital products in a highly competitive market. • Strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of market research, data analysis, and customer insights. • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex product features into clear, compelling messaging. • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and work effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment. • People management experience, with a vested interest in setting more junior team members up for short and long-term career success. • You have passion for product and are a student of culture.
