Job description

We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join our Devops Platform team, where you will blend linux system administration and software engineering skills to build and maintain all our infrastructure and core services running in our data centers and the cloud. Wealthfront’s Infrastructure team is a team of “Generalists with Expertise” who adhere to DevOps principles by building software and services to automate all infrastructure operations. Our objective is to empower all our developers to build and own their systems end-to-end. We're a modern infrastructure engineering team, believing strongly in testing, automation, and standardization through software. We operate in both physical data centers and AWS environments, and leverage open source technologies such as containers, MariaDB, NGINX, Jenkins, and Chef, as well as build tools and services using Go and Java to deliver automated infrastructure to our engineers and ultimately serve our clients. About Wealthfront Engineering Wealthfront’s culture centers around continuous learning, innovation, and quality-driven software development. With high quality software as our ultimate engineering objective, our key tactic is automation: • Wealthfront software automates the financial services we provide to our clients, and within these services we automate the collection of data that we learn from on our way to making our services even better. • Wealthfront engineers function as builder/operators, with dual responsibility for building the system and operating it in production. Any toil that this brings about is automated away by engineers. This investment in automation is expected, and the prioritization of it is always built into our planning and execution. • Wealthfront engineers automate our development processes. For example, Wealthfront engineers automate all of our testing. Manual testing is not part of the software development lifecycle at Wealthfront. • Wealthfront engineers automate observability in case of failure. If something is up, our systems inform engineers appropriately. If our systems are quiet, they are healthy. If you are drawn to being an engineer within such an environment, and having outsized impact as an engineer at a magnitude that is only available within a company achieving greatness at our size (~350 employees, half in engineering), then we want to hear from you! As a member of the team, you will: Maintain our core infrastructure by writing software to automate application deployment, configure our infrastructure, and manage critical services such as our databases. Ensure that mission critical services operate reliably by triaging and fixing operational issues in linux environments as an on-call engineer, participating in post-mortems, and implementing improvements to prevent future issues. Design, implement, and deploy internal tools and services to accelerate productivity of the wider Engineering team and enable direct ownership of operations. Help manage our server hardware in our physical data centers which may occasionally include travel to our Bay Area or New Jersey data centers for onsite projects. Be involved in key decisions regarding the evolution of our infrastructure This role could be a fit if you have: A BS or MS in Computer Science or an Engineering field Experience with running and troubleshooting modern Linux systems and services in production 2+ years of experience developing reliable production-grade software in Java, Go, or other similar languages Proficiency with at least one automation technology such as Terraform, Chef, or Puppet Successfully designed and deployed mission-critical complex distributed systems Excellent critical thinking and communications skills with a desire to both learn from and educate your peers Once you join, Wealthfront will: Pair you with a 1:1 mentor to guide you through our onboarding program. Encourage you to lead impactful projects which match your professional goals. Support your professional development by providing feedback during weekly 1:1s and during our bi-annual reviews. Be given the opportunity to participate in designing systems and planning for the future of our infrastructure Estimated annual salary range: $150,000 - $189,000 plus equity and a discretionary bonus. Benefits include medical, vision, dental, 401K plan, generous time off, parental leave, wellness reimbursements, professional development, employee investing discount, and more! About Wealthfront Here at Wealthfront, our mission is to create a financial system that favors people, not institutions. We do this by leveraging technology to build powerful, low-cost, and easy-to-use financial products that help modern investors grow and manage their money. We started with the ambition to transform the investment advisory industry when we pioneered automated investing in 2011. By automating strategies typically reserved for the wealthy, we unlocked access to high quality investment advice for a digitally-native generation that was underserved by traditional institutions. Since then, we've expanded to a full suite of products designed to help our clients save, spend, invest, and borrow for all of their goals, including: •A Cash Account that, through our program banks, offers one of the highest annual percentage yields on uninvested cash in the industry, while providing instant and secure access to your money with no account fees and a full suite of checking features. • Multiple automated investing portfolios managed for you and tailored for long-term wealth building across various financial needs, including general investing, retirement, family wealth management, and more. Our taxable investing accounts are designed to unlock tax savings through sophisticated strategies like fixed income, tax-loss harvesting, and direct indexing—which we offer at industry-leading low costs and accessible minimums. • A zero-commission Brokerage Account with 8000+ stocks and ETFs that’s designed to give DIY investors an incredibly easy way to get started investing. Plus, with our Cash Account, they can earn a high yield (from program banks) until the minute they’re ready to invest. • A digital-first mortgage experience designed to reduce costs, remove unnecessary friction, and aim to offer rates consistently below the national average. Our award-winning products have attracted over 1.5 million funded clients who trust us with more than $100 billion of their hard earned savings on our platform—and we're far from done.
