We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer with experience in YC-backed or Venture backed start-ups to lead high-impact technical initiatives, design scalable systems, and help shape the engineering architecture as the company continues to grow.
This is a high-ownership role for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working across teams, and turning ambiguous requirements into reliable production systems.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead the design and implementation of complex, production-grade systems.
- Architect scalable services and APIs using TypeScript, Python, and Go.
- Own technically challenging projects from design through deployment.
- Drive architectural decisions across multiple engineering teams.
- Improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Identify technical bottlenecks and develop long-term solutions.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and other technical stakeholders.
- Establish engineering standards, patterns, and best practices.
- Mentor senior engineers and provide technical leadership.
- Participate in technical strategy and long-term platform planning.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong experience with TypeScript, Python, Go, or a combination of these.

- Strong distributed systems and system design knowledge.
- Experience leading technical projects across multiple teams.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Strong ownership and ability to operate independently.
- Willingness to work on-site in San Francisco.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes.
- Experience building high-scale SaaS or platform systems.
- Distributed systems or event-driven architecture experience.
- AI/ML infrastructure or AI product experience.
- Startup or scale-up experience.
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives.
WHY JOIN?
Our client is building highly scalable technology that sits at the core of critical business operations, offering engineers the opportunity to work on complex systems, large-scale integrations, and real-world technical challenges.
You'll join a collaborative, fast-moving environment where ownership is encouraged, decisions are made quickly, and engineers have meaningful influence on architecture, product direction, and engineering culture.
This role offers the opportunity to tackle challenging backend problems, work with modern technologies, and grow alongside an ambitious team building for scale.
Full benefit package and competitive compensation.
