Product Design Engineer at MRINetwork

Job description

SolidWorks Designer in Custom Metal Fabrication What if your next SolidWorks position gave you more than a steady stream of drawings to produce? We're representing an 80-year-old St. Louis manufacturing company whose custom metal fabrication work can be found throughout the region, including projects associated with landmarks such as the St. Louis Art Museum and Missouri Botanical Garden. Beyond architectural fabrication, this company designs and manufactures custom enclosures for electrical equipment and other engineered metal products using modern manufacturing technology. They're looking for an experienced SolidWorks Designer who wants to do more than sit behind a computer. In this role, you'll work directly with customers to turn concepts, sketches, and sometimes incomplete specifications into practical, production-ready designs. You'll also collaborate closely with the manufacturing team to ensure those designs can be efficiently and successfully fabricated. What Makes This Opportunity Different? • Ownership: Be involved from initial customer discussions through finished production. • Variety: Work on custom-engineered products rather than repetitive designs. • Influence: Your judgment and problem-solving abilities will directly affect how products are manufactured. • Visibility: Work closely with customers, production personnel, and company leadership. • Growth: For the right individual, there is a genuine opportunity to develop into a senior leadership role, potentially at the executive level. What We're Looking For: • Strong SolidWorks experience in a manufacturing environment. • Experience with sheet metal fabrication preferred, but not required. • Ability to interpret customer requirements, including incomplete or imperfect design information. • Confidence communicating directly with customers and shop-floor personnel. • Sound judgment regarding manufacturability, material selection, and production considerations. • Familiarity with NEMA- or UL-related products is a plus, not a requirement. Who Should Consider This? An experienced mechanical designer who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in seeing designs become finished products, and has the ambition to eventually lead people and influence business decisions. If you're comfortable being just another designer in a large engineering department, this may not be the right opportunity. But if you'd like your work to have a visible impact on both the product and the company, we should talk.
