Job description

About OPEN Data Jobs OPEN Data Jobs (ODJ) is built to craft data careers. We connect high-potential data, AI, and software professionals with meaningful work on the cutting edge of the federal sector, and our aim reaches beyond any single opening: to help you understand your strengths, find the right role, and grow throughout your career. ODJ is organized around Roles and Openings. A Role is a durable career type, such as Data Engineer or AI Engineer: it describes the work, the skills that count, and where the path can lead. An Opening is a specific position hiring right now, with a level, a location, and an application. Roles help you see where you fit; from there, there is more than one way to move. Today, you can apply to any Opening that fits you through our secure application system. You can also register for a Role to express interest in that broader category of work. A Role registration is not an application to every future Opening. The work Cloud Infrastructure Engineers build and operate the shared technical foundation on which applications run. Their scope includes networking, compute, storage, identity, secrets, connectivity, and recovery capabilities, designed as a coherent environment rather than a collection of service configurations. They use automation to create repeatable environments, establish guardrails, and make operating conditions visible through monitoring. Where DevSecOps Engineers own the secure delivery path, Cloud Infrastructure Engineers own the platform capabilities, service configuration, capacity, resilience, and operational patterns that delivery teams consume. What you'll build · Versioned cloud environments for networks, compute, storage, identity, and connectivity. · Landing-zone patterns, account structures, and guardrails for teams using shared cloud services. · Resilience capabilities including backup, recovery, failover, and capacity management. · Monitoring, alerting, and cloud security posture management for infrastructure health and configuration. · Reusable platform services that give application teams a consistent path to deploy and operate. Who you are You think in systems and operating conditions. A network rule, identity policy, storage setting, or recovery process is not a one-time configuration to you; it is a component whose behavior must remain understandable as the environment changes. You prefer documented automation to hand-built environments. You can work with application, security, and operations colleagues, yet keep clear ownership of the foundation that those teams rely on. What you bring · Experience designing or operating Amazon Web Services or comparable cloud networking, compute, storage, and identity services. · Infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management practice with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or comparable tools. · Knowledge of identity and access management, secrets handling, and network segmentation. · Experience with observability, capacity planning, backup, recovery, and incident response. · Ability to evaluate cloud configurations against mission, resilience, cost, and security requirements. Openings may specify a cloud provider, hybrid environment, container platform, or network architecture. They may also seek experience with cloud security posture management, a continuous practice of identifying, prioritizing, and addressing cloud configuration and vulnerability issues. Some environments may require evidence of resilience engineering, recovery testing, shared-service design, or authorization support. The role should not absorb ownership of each application release pipeline, even when infrastructure engineers collaborate closely with DevSecOps teams. Compensation, benefits, work location, and employment terms are set for each specific opening and will be stated with that opening.
