Job description

Job Summary WebstaurantStore is the largest online restaurant supply company, helping foodservice businesses - from small cafés to major enterprises - get the tools they need to grow. Our catalog includes everything from commercial kitchen equipment to frozen foods, apparel, disposables, and more. WebstaurantStore, a Clark Associates company, is looking for a proactive, curious Front-End Developer Intern to join our Storefront engineering team for the Summer of 2027. In this role, you'll get hands-on experience contributing to our customer-facing e-commerce site, working alongside experienced developers who take pride in craftsmanship, collaboration, and strong team culture. The Storefront team builds and maintains the high-performance, customer-facing experiences that millions of shoppers use every day. We work primarily in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and we're passionate about writing clean, reusable, well-tested code. As a WebstaurantStore remote intern, you'll enjoy the same training and support to be successful in your position as interns at our physical corporate locations. Intern networking and professional development sessions are available both virtually and in person. We stay connected through video meetings, training sessions, and collaborative forums, and provide opportunities for you to connect with other employees from across the country both professionally and personally. Remote Work Qualifications • Access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day tasks. • Access to a home router and modem. • A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free. The space should have strong wireless connection or a wired Ethernet connection (wired connection is preferred, if possible). • A valid, physical address (apartment, suite, etc.). PO Boxes are not supported, as a physical address is required for you to receive your computer equipment. • The desire and ability to work and communicate with other team members via chat, webcam, etc. • Legal residents of one of the following states: (AK, AL, AR, AZ, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV, and WY). We only accept W-2 candidates, H-1B sponsorship is not available. Responsibilities • Contribute to real features on our e-commerce site alongside both Frontend and Fullstack engineers, with code review and guidance every step of the way. • Get hands-on exposure to React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS in a production codebase, along with the tools and workflows our team uses daily. • Sit in on technical planning sessions, collaborating with product designers and product owners to see how a feature goes from idea to shipped product. • Write tests for your changes and contribute to documentation as part of your feature work. • Help maintain shared team tools and our component library under the guidance of your mentor. • Pair-program with team members and build toward independently owning small features by the end of the internship. • Complete other special projects as assigned. • Complete a presentation outlining your projects, contributions, and feedback at the end of the program. Physical Requirements • Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer. • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. • Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching. • Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs. Qualifications Experience We welcome applicants across a wide range of experience levels - from students taking on their first internship to those about to graduate. What matters most to us is potential, curiosity, and the traits described below. That said, here's what tends to fit well: • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. Computer Science, Web Development, or related field preferred, but any major with relevant experience is welcome. • Foundational knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. • Some exposure to React (coursework, personal projects, or bootcamp) is a plus, but not required. Willingness to learn matters more than prior production experience. • Prior internship experience is a plus, but not required. We are just as excited to work with someone taking on their first internship as someone who's done a few. • For candidates further along in their studies (e.g., entering their final year), a genuine interest in WebstaurantStore's mission and business is a strong plus. Education This role does not require a degree. We value relevant skills and experience and alignment with our core values above all else. Desired Traits & Skills We are looking for driven, motivated candidates who are: • Proactive — motivated to learn, work collaboratively, and leave things better than they found them. • Dependable — meet commitments consistently and communicate roadblocks early. • Problem solvers — able to dig into a bug or puzzle through a tricky layout. • Passionate — excited about code and eager to work with new technology. • Great communicators — able to explain their work clearly and keep the team informed. • Able to flourish in a fast-paced, changing environment. • Willing to independently take initiative and ownership of problems to find solutions. • Able to provide feedback on team/company processes and projects. Pay: $18.75 - $22.25 per hour
