Job description

Hi, Future Homie! At Homebase, you’ll join a team that’s bold, fast-moving, and obsessed with helping small businesses thrive. We build with empathy, act with urgency, and take big swings that drive real-world impact. Here, every Homie shows up to raise the bar, support one another, and celebrate wins as a team. We’re not just building an app—we’re building unstoppable teams. So what do you say, are you in? 📍Your Impact Starts Here We're looking for an HR Business Partner who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution. You'll be the embedded People partner for our EPDD org — Engineering, Product, Design, and Data — bringing both advisory depth and operational excellence to a fast-moving team that expects a trusted partner who can keep up. If you're energized by building trust with technical leaders, solving complex people challenges, and using AI to work smarter — this one's for you. These are the key ways you’ll contribute and create impact: - Strategic Partnership (~60%) - Serve as the dedicated HRBP for EPDD managers and senior managers — proactively building relationships, not just showing up in a crisis - Coach leaders through performance conversations, complex ER cases, and difficult people decisions with speed and good judgment - Partner on org health: use data to spot patterns, anticipate friction, and help leaders see around corners as we scale - Support performance management cycles end-to-end — feedback, documentation, PIPs, and exits when needed - Be an approachable and accessible partner for Homies across the team when they need support or guidance on moments that matter in the employee lifecycle - Operational Excellence (~40%) - Be the team's subject matter expert on Canadian employment law and market practices - Exceptional program management - you can identify, build, and deliver high-quality, impactful talent programs that solve a problem on the team. - Use AI to improve how you work — automate what can be automated, build what's missing, streamline what's slow. 🚀 The Foundation for Success - These are the experiences and strengths that will set you up for success in this role: - 4 – 7 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 1 year in a true HRBP role — not HR admin, not systems; we’re looking for impact through your business partnership - Direct experience supporting EPDD or R&D teams is a major plus — engineers and PMs came to you - Real advisory instincts: you've shaped decisions, not just supported them, through pattern recognition, data, insights, and strong instincts and influence - Proven experience managing leave programs and immigration cases — you know the details and don't drop the ball - Genuine AI fluency — you've built or improved a workflow with AI, measured the impact, and want to go further - Strong Canadian & US employment law knowledge - HRIS experience (Rippling preferred) - Toronto-based and energized by in-person collaboration 🤝 The Homie Way - These principles guide everything we do—from how we work and make decisions to how we show up for each other. - 💡 Be Customer Obsessed – Solve problems with empathy and creativity. - ⚡ Move Fast, Learn Fast – Experiment, take action, and grow every day. - 🎯 Own Your Impact – Think big, focus on what matters, and make decisions you stand behind. - 🏆 Master Your Craft – Excellence fuels impact—show up, step up, and make your mark. - 🏅 Win Together – Put goals over roles, lead with trust, and connect to our mission and each other. What We Offer - 💰 Ownership & Savings: Stock options + TFSA/RRSP with 4% company match - 🏥 Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision for you and your dependents + corporate wellness discounts with Goodlife, Othership & more - ⏰ Time Flexibility: Flex time off + company holidays + designated focus periods - 🤖 AI Access, For Real: We invest in builders and believe that curiosity shouldn't have a paywall. That means you'll have access to paid AI tools with minimal restrictions, so you can build, experiment, and level up your craft. - 👶 Family Support: Maternity/Parental Leave EI top-up support offered (after 6 months of service) - 🌟 Work Your Way: Work From Anywhere Month + meeting-free weeks yearly - 🛡️ Protection Plans: Life insurance + short/long-term disability coverage - 🍽️ Workspace Perks: Meals provided, team offsites, and Customer Days - 💼 Our Hybrid Rhythm: We believe collaboration drives impact. That’s why Tuesday and Wednesday are our required in-office days—a time to move faster as a team, build deeper connections, make better decisions, and build together.
