Job description
At PMAT, we work on mission critical systems that directly support the warfighter, designing, building, and securing modern digital capabilities across cloud, data, and software environments. Our teams tackle complex, real-world challenges where delivery matters more than theory, and innovation is driven by curiosity, collaboration, and purpose.
In this role, you’ll contribute to mission-focused technology initiatives, working alongside engineers and technical teams to deliver resilient, forward-leaning solutions in support of national defense.
About the role: PMAT is seeking a highly experienced Software Systems Integration Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide senior technical leadership for critical software development, integration, and deployment efforts supporting complex operational environments. This role will work directly with senior leaders, software teams, systems engineers, integration teams, and technical stakeholders to evaluate, develop, test, integrate, and deploy software capabilities at scale. The candidate will help establish and sustain production and development environments, manage technical backlogs, and drive software capabilities from requirements and proof-of-concept development through integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment. The role requires extensive software engineering and systems integration expertise, strong knowledge of modern DevSecOps and AGILE methodologies, and the ability to provide technical direction in a rapid innovation environment.
Responsibilities:
Lead the software development and integration lifecycle for resilient software and web applications, including requirements analysis, specification, architecture, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, maintenance, and sustainment.
Work directly with senior leaders, technical stakeholders, and engineering teams to evaluate technical needs, define objectives, develop and prioritize backlogs, and deliver software capabilities at scale.
Design, develop, integrate, and implement software solutions using modern DevSecOps practices, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), microservices, APIs, and other modular software approaches.
Perform system and software design, development, integration, and implementation of proof-of-concept prototypes to evaluate emerging capabilities and rapidly transition successful solutions toward production use.
Integrate software applications, web-based products, network operating environments, data services, and supporting systems to ensure interoperability and reliable end-to-end capability delivery.
Apply software architecture, requirements-driven design, test-driven development, and behavior-driven development principles to improve software quality, resiliency, maintainability, and alignment with technical requirements.
Analyze system workflows, data usage, software dependencies, interfaces, and technical problem areas to identify integration challenges and develop effective engineering solutions.
Serve as a senior technical authority by providing recommendations to engineering and program leadership, mentoring junior engineers, reviewing technical approaches, and guiding teams through complex software development and integration challenges.
Document and demonstrate technical solutions through system documentation, architecture diagrams, flowcharts, interface descriptions, specifications, standards, code comments, technical briefings, and other engineering artifacts.
About Us: PMAT is an innovative small business founded with a passion for developing forward-leaning solutions from exceptional people that increase the mission's capability. We focus on designing and building impactful digital solutions that utilize modern cloud, data, and software concepts. Our passion is working on complex and progressive challenges such as edge platform computing, containerizing legacy platforms, distributed data platforms, or heterogeneous data analysis.
We recruit, retain, and foster a team motivated to pursue passions, investigate new ways of doing things, and embody an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. We believe in being curious about every element of a problem and experiment relentlessly. We foster continuous learning in an environment that encourages positive collaboration and expands our capabilities. We tap into collective intelligence, acknowledging that the most brilliant people may not be in the room. Above all else, we believe that delivering and demonstrating is more potent than a sheet of paper. We are passionate about mission-centric design and delivering effective capabilities to and for the warfighter.
Whether you’re an experienced engineer or just beginning your career, you’ll work alongside experts who are committed to solving mission-critical problems. If you’re passionate about using your skills to make a real difference, apply today and become part of a team that’s shaping the future of defense technology!
Required Skills and Experience:
Extensive experience in software engineering, software systems integration, application development, systems engineering, or related technical disciplines supporting complex software environments.
Strong understanding of software architecture, requirements-driven design, software integration, system interfaces, and the complete software development lifecycle.
Experience designing, developing, integrating, testing, deploying, and sustaining resilient software applications, web applications, or distributed software systems.
Experience developing software solutions using modern development practices, modular architectures, APIs, services, or microservices-based approaches.
Experience supporting DevSecOps and Agile software development environments, including backlog management, iterative development, integration, testing, and rapid capability delivery.
Experience performing system design, software development, integration, and implementation of prototypes or proof-of-concept capabilities.
Experience analyzing system workflows, data flows, application interfaces, software dependencies, user requirements, and technical integration challenges.
Demonstrated ability to provide senior technical leadership, mentor engineers, coordinate across multidisciplinary teams, and provide recommendations to technical and program leadership.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex software and integration topics into clear recommendations for engineering, program, senior leadership, and technical audiences.
