Position Overview
We are looking for experienced software engineers with strong expertise in Ruby on Rails (RoR) and enterprise-level application development.
The client is not looking for generic Ruby on Rails developers who only build REST APIs. Candidates must have a deep understanding of the Rails framework, backend architecture, complex system integrations, and enterprise-scale applications.
Technical Requirements
Candidates should have strong knowledge and hands-on experience in the following areas:
1. Ruby on Rails Beyond REST APIs
• Deep understanding of the Ruby on Rails framework beyond basic API development.
• Experience building and maintaining enterprise-grade Rails applications.
2. Background and Asynchronous Processing
• Experience with background processes and asynchronous processing.
3. Metaprogramming
• Strong understanding of Ruby metaprogramming concepts.
4. Active Record and Database Callbacks
• Experience with Active Record and database callbacks.
5. Large-Scale Data Processing
• Experience handling large volumes of data efficiently.
6. Polyglot Systems
• Understanding of systems involving multiple programming languages and technologies.
7. System Integrations
• Experience with integrations and interactions between different enterprise systems.
8. Enterprise-Scale Ruby on Rails
• General understanding of enterprise-scale Rails applications and architecture.
Communication and Architectural Skills
Candidates must demonstrate:
• Very good communication skills.
• Ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs.
• Ability to explain why a particular technical approach was selected.
• Ability to understand and articulate the current technical architecture and implementation approach.
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers and teams across the organization.
Project Environment
The client operates in a complex enterprise environment with the following characteristics:
• Enterprise Platforms and Products: The work involves long-term enterprise platforms and products rather than short-term projects.
• High Availability: Systems are expected to meet near-zero-downtime commitments.
• Complex Existing Systems: Candidates must be able to understand and work with existing complex systems, rather than focusing only on developing new features.
• Production-Grade Applications: Engineers must be capable of contributing to production-grade enterprise systems over an extended period.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is an experienced Ruby on Rails engineer who:
• Has deep, hands-on experience with the Rails framework beyond REST API development.
• Understands enterprise application architecture and system design.
• Has worked on large-scale, business-critical production systems.
• Can troubleshoot, maintain, and enhance complex existing applications.
• Understands asynchronous processing, database operations, and enterprise integrations.
• Can clearly explain architectural decisions and technical trade-offs.
• Can work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
