Leading technologies, innovative products and driven employees. Come be a part of MACOM and help advance the next generation of connectivity infrastructure! Senior Product Engineer, RF/Microwave Module Products Position Summary MACOM is seeking a Senior Product Engineer to provide technical ownership and leadership for the introduction, release, and sustaining support of complex RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave module products at our Nashua, New Hampshire facility. The Senior Product Engineer serves as a technical bridge among Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability, Operations, and program leadership. This engineer owns significant NPI and product-engineering activities, leads difficult yield and manufacturing investigations, influences test strategy, and ensures that products are ready for repeatable and cost-effective production. This is a hands-on senior engineering position. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable leading a technical review, analyzing a large production dataset, developing a test strategy, troubleshooting a module in the laboratory, or working alongside technicians to understand a difficult manufacturing problem. What You Will Do • Lead product-engineering activities for complex RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave module programs. • Own manufacturing readiness and production-release planning for assigned products or product families. • Provide technical leadership during the transition from prototype development through qualification, initial production, production ramp, and sustaining support. • Partner with Design Engineering early in the development cycle to improve manufacturability, testability, product margin, and production readiness. • Define comprehensive characterization and production test strategies based on design requirements, expected variation, failure mechanisms, manufacturing risk, and program commitments. • Lead development and deployment of RF and DC production test solutions in partnership with Test Engineering. • Guide the design and technical review of RF test boards, fixtures, interface assemblies, calibration methods, and supporting hardware. • Establish methods for correlating design characterization, engineering test, production test, and external manufacturing test results. • Lead statistical analysis used to establish test limits, guard bands, datasheet specifications, and product-screening strategies. • Own complex yield investigations and drive cross-functional teams toward verified root cause and effective corrective action. • Evaluate whether performance excursions originate in the product, test system, calibration, fixture, assembly process, component variation, or documentation. • Establish monitoring methods that detect changes in yield, product performance, or test-system health before significant production is affected. • Drive improvements in test accuracy, repeatability, throughput, maintainability, and total cost of test. • Ensure that all production-release requirements are complete, including qualified test solutions, hardware, software, BOMs, drawings, procedures, specifications, costing inputs, training, and manufacturing documentation. • Support product qualification, reliability investigation, failure analysis, and corrective-action activities. • Provide technical direction to engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, and outside manufacturing partners. • Lead formal product, yield, test-readiness, and manufacturing reviews. • Present concise, evidence-based technical recommendations to engineering and program leadership. • Identify systemic gaps in NPI, product engineering, or production test processes and lead practical improvements. • Mentor Product Engineer I and Product Engineer II team members in RF measurement, test development, statistics, troubleshooting, documentation, and engineering judgment. • Establish and promote engineering best practices while remaining willing to work directly with hardware when difficult problems require hands-on investigation. • Manage multiple technically complex activities while balancing performance, quality, schedule, yield, cost, and manufacturing risk. • Support occasional travel to suppliers, manufacturing partners, or other MACOM facilities as program needs require. Level of Responsibility A Senior Product Engineer is expected to: • Own products or significant module programs with limited day-to-day technical direction. • Lead major NPI, production-release, and sustaining-engineering efforts. • Resolve difficult and ambiguous problems that cross engineering and manufacturing disciplines. • Anticipate production and test risks before they result in schedule delays or significant yield loss. • Influence design, test, manufacturing, and program decisions through strong technical analysis. • Build consensus across teams when technical priorities or interpretations differ. • Mentor less experienced engineers and improve the capability of the broader organization. • Develop reusable methods and best practices rather than solving each problem only once. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field. An advanced degree is a plus. • Typically five or more years of relevant experience in RF product engineering, test engineering, module engineering, RF design, applications engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related discipline. • Strong hands-on knowledge of RF and microwave measurements, instrumentation, calibration, fixtures, and troubleshooting. • Demonstrated experience supporting the release or manufacture of complex electronic products. • Experience developing test plans, analyzing characterization data, establishing test limits, and investigating yield issues. • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis as applied to product characterization, manufacturing variation, yield, and measurement systems. • Ability to diagnose interactions among RF product performance, test-system behavior, assembly processes, and component variation. • Experience producing high-quality technical documentation and presenting engineering conclusions to cross-functional audiences. • Demonstrated ability to lead technical investigations and coordinate actions across multiple engineering disciplines. • Ability to work effectively in both laboratory and production environments. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with RF, microwave, or millimeter-wave modules, multi-chip modules, integrated microwave assemblies, or high-frequency subsystems. • Experience with amplifier modules, frequency converters, receivers, transmitters, switches, attenuators, synthesizers, control electronics, or related RF products. • Experience with test and characterization at millimeter-wave frequencies. • Experience designing RF fixtures, test boards, waveguide interfaces, bias networks, control interfaces, or automated test hardware. • Experience with RF measurement techniques including S-parameters, gain compression, noise figure, harmonics, spurious response, phase, group delay, switching characteristics, pulsed measurements, modulated-signal measurements, or thermal characterization. • Programming and automation experience using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C#, C++, or similar tools. • Experience with RF and electromagnetic simulation tools such as Keysight ADS, AWR Microwave Office, HFSS, CST, or similar platforms. • Experience with measurement-system analysis, gauge repeatability and reproducibility, process capability, statistical process control, and production monitoring. • Experience transferring test solutions or manufacturing processes to internal or external production partners. • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, satellite communications, telecommunications, test and measurement, or other high-performance RF markets. • Experience mentoring engineers or leading cross-functional technical teams. The Candidate We Hope to Find The ideal Senior Product Engineer is someone other engineers seek out when the data is confusing, the schedule is compressed, and the first explanation does not survive careful investigation. This person is fascinated by RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave engineering, but also understands that a successful product must be manufacturable, testable, repeatable, supportable, and economically viable. They combine strong laboratory instincts with disciplined statistical analysis and practical manufacturing judgment. They communicate clearly, teach willingly, and remain personally engaged with the hardware. EEO: MACOM is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse workforce.
