Job description

Relay is a digital banking platform that gives self-made business owners the tools and know-how to be great with money—bringing clarity, confidence, and control to every dollar earned, so they can turn hard work into lasting success. We do this by replacing financial guesswork with real visibility, transforming cash flow from a constant source of stress into a clear signal owners can use to run stronger, more resilient businesses. At Relay, product management is about outcomes, not outputs. We start with real customer problems and build solutions that move the needle for SMBs, and for our business. Our team pairs long-term vision with rapid iteration. We believe that trust is a product feature, and that usability, reliability, and polish aren’t afterthoughts, they’re core to how we earn the confidence of business owners. Every launch is measured, every release is a chance to learn, and we prioritize relentlessly so we can focus on what matters most. Above all, we never compromise on customer empathy or product craft. Why this role matters Many small businesses walk a constant cashflow tightrope, and the average SMB has just 27 days of cash on hand. They’re juggling payroll, inventory, contractor payments, and everyday expenses, all while trying to carve out resources to invest in growth. Product Managers at Relay play a central role in solving these problems by building financial products that are simple, intuitive, and impactful. As Senior Product Manager, you’ll lead a major product area from end-to-end (e.g. core banking, risk, AI Insights, payroll etc). You’ll take new products and features from zero to one, scale existing ones, and directly impact how thousands of entrepreneurs run their businesses. In your first year, you might: - Launch and iterate on high priority products ensuring the experiences are simple, intuitive, and trustworthy. - Improve customer outcomes by driving integrations with banking, accounting, or payment platforms. - Collaborate with Risk, Data, and Operations to ensure Relay’s products are reliable, secure, and insight-driven. - Build narratives and roadmaps that align stakeholders, clarify priorities, and inspire confidence, even in the face of ambiguity. - Partner with Sales, Marketing, and CX to deliver successful launches and drive adoption among SMB customers. What You’ll Be Doing: - Own impactful products end-to-end: define the vision, set the roadmap, and deliver high-impact outcomes shaping how SMBs understand, manage, and spend their money. - Treat your product like a business: define and track KPIs, monitor performance, and make decisions rooted in data, customer insights, and company goals. - Ship high-quality products from ideation to launch: partner closely with design and engineering as part of a leadership trifecta, raising the bar for usability, craft, and polish. - Build and tell the story for your product: create clear narratives that inspire leadership, cross-functional partners, and customers; even in ambiguous situations. - Stay deeply connected to SMB customers: immerse yourself in their workflows and pain points, ensuring we’re solving meaningful problems and delivering products that feel both intuitive and delightful. - Collaborate cross-functionally: work with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Experience teams to ensure smooth go-to-market launches and strong adoption. - Partner externally and internally: navigate and evaluate strategic partners while working across Relay as we grow our product offerings and build new capabilities. - Champion product culture at Relay: bring curiosity, ownership, and a high bar for quality that elevates both the product team as a whole. Who You Are - At least five years of product management experience, with a track record of shipping and owning products at scale - Proven ability to take ownership of a product area and influence broader strategy. - Strong data competency with the ability to self-serve metrics and write basic SQL queries to support decision making - Excellent storytelling and communication skills: you bring clarity and inspire conviction across engineering, design, and business stakeholders. - Experience working closely with engineering and design as part of a leadership trifecta to deliver polished, high-quality experiences - Demonstrated success working cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Experience teams to ensure effective launches and adoption - Comfort working in ambiguous environments while bringing structure and clarity where needed - Experimental & curious in your approach to product management (i.e. tooling, processes etc) Bonus Points - Have experience in fintech products. - You’ve joined a company at its early stages and have seen it through scale - You have experience working in a fintech startup - Are familiar with risk/fraud tools or credit underwriting frameworks. The Interview Process - Stage 1: A 45-minute Google Meets video call with a member of our Talent team - Stage 2: A 45-minute Product Deep Dive interview with the hiring manager - Stage 3: A 1-hour case study panel interview - a take home case study assignment will form the basis of this discussion - Stage 4: A 45-minute in-person interview with a member of our leadership team Our Compensation Approach At Relay, we believe Relayers should feel valued for the impact they have on our mission and growth. So we pay fairly and transparently. The annual salary range for this role is $162,000 CAD to $198,000 CAD. We pay for impact and aren’t tied to yearly reviews. As your contributions to Relay’s mission scale, so do your rewards. Most new Relayers will join at the impactful level, which for this role is $180,000 CAD per year. The range represents the potential for impact within the role, from developing to having an outsized impact. Why Relay Might Be the Perfect Fit For You - You push relentlessly for reinvention: You're always asking "how can this be better?" -- in your work, in your craft, in yourself. If you’re someone who takes initiative, is comfortable taking risks, and seeks input when needed, you’ll find the freedom here empowering. - You own your work: You take pride in your work, follow through on commitments, and feel a deep sense of responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks. - You build with AI, not just use it: You're actively embedding AI into how you work, pushing what's possible, and bringing your team along with you. - You care about impact, not noise: You care deeply about the substance of your work. You measure success by results, not recognition, and you let your work speak for itself. - You’re energized by complexity and ambiguity: You enjoy tackling problems that don’t come with a playbook. You’re comfortable building from scratch, iterating as you go, and collaborating to shape the best path forward. - You seek out feedback: You see directness as respect, not criticism. You actively seek input, sit with hard truths, and use feedback as fuel for improvement. - Small businesses are why we're here: Relay exists to help them thrive -- and that mission has to resonate with you. Join Us We're looking for people who are relentless, curious, and care deeply about the work.
