Job description

Assured is on a mission to modernize insurance. Claims processing (i.e. should we pay this claim?), while often overlooked, is the foundation of the entire industry. It’s currently highly manual, involving phone calls, faxes, and gut instinct, costing tens of billions of dollars a year. We can do better. At Assured, we provide large insurers with the software solutions they need to win in a modern, technology-driven world. From self-service claim-filing software to backend fraud detection, we’re the engine that powers claims processing for some of the largest insurers in the world. The challenges we face are deep and diverse, from creating digital experiences that provide comfort and clarity to claimants at their most stressed and vulnerable to orchestrating large-scale ML-driven decision-making on billions of dollars of claims payments, life at Assured is dynamic, collaborative, and rewarding. Join us in shaping the future of developer experience at Assured! We’re looking for a Staff Application Platform Engineer who’s passionate about building scalable, secure, and elegant systems that empower teams to move fast with confidence. WHAT YOU’LL DO 🧩 Elevate developer productivity by abstracting common patterns and creating tools that make building delightful. ⚙️ Design, develop, and optimize our platform to be secure, reliable, and effortlessly scalable. 🧠 Diagnose and resolve bottlenecks across the stack to ensure smooth, high-performance systems. 🔒 Champion security and reliability, ensuring sensitive data stays protected at all times. 📈 Continuously improve resilience and efficiency, especially under rapid product growth. 🤝 Collaborate cross-functionally to design and implement best practices that benefit all teams. 🚀 Own projects end-to-end — from ideation to deployment — driving quality, speed, and impact. 🔧 Enhance and expand our platform services, enabling the next generation of Assured products. WHAT YOU BRING 💼 8+ years of experience in platform or backend engineering (or equivalent expertise). 🧰 Deep knowledge of TypeScript, plus experience with Node.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, and AWS. 🎯 Proven ability to lead projects independently from architecture to production. 🌐 Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction across teams. 🛡️ A track record of building secure, reliable, high-performance platforms. ❤️ A passion for craftsmanship — clean code, thoughtful design, and collaborative teamwork. ⚖️ Confidence making strategic technical tradeoffs with company-wide implications. 🔍 A growth mindset and ownership mentality, always looking to make systems better.
