Product Manager, Ambulatory Coding at Ambience Healthcare

Job description

About Us: Here at Ambience, we never set out to be just another scribe. We’re building the AI intelligence platform that restores humanity to healthcare and drives meaningful ROI for health systems across the country. Our technology helps providers focus on delivering great care by removing the administrative burden that pulls them away from patients and away from their most impactful work. Ambience delivers real-time coding-aware documentation and clinical workflow support across ambulatory, emergency and inpatient settings at the top health systems in North America. Our teams operate relentlessly with extreme ownership to build the best solutions for our health system partners. We value candor, positivity and deep thought — and we expect a lot from each other because we know the problems we’re solving truly matter. Ambience was ranked #1 for Improving the Clinician Experience in the KLAS Research Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report, recognized by Fast Company as one of the Next Big Things in Tech, named one of the best AI companies in healthcare by Inc., and selected as a LinkedIn Top Startup in 2024 and 2025. We’re backed by Oak HC/FT, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), OpenAI Startup Fund, and Kleiner Perkins — and we’re just getting started. THE ROLE As our Product Manager, Ambulatory Coding, you'll own Ambience's ambulatory professional coding product, starting with primary care. Your mission is to help clinicians capture the services they provided with accurate, well-supported coding at the point of care, while reducing the manual work required from coding teams. You'll own the product end to end: understanding how clinicians and coding teams work today, deciding which problems to solve first, setting the roadmap, shipping with Engineering and Clinical AI, and measuring results with customers. The initial focus is CPT coding, including E/M levels, add-on codes, modifiers, and procedures. Over time, the goal is to move from coding recommendations to coding for encounters where accuracy, compliance, and customer workflows support it. Done well, this role helps clinicians capture the full value of the care they deliver and makes accurate, compliant coding something that happens at the point of care, not after the fact. This is a Senior PM role - you'll work closely with engineering, design, Clinical AI/ML, and GTM teams. We're a hybrid company headquartered in San Francisco. This role requires being in the SF office 3x/week. WHAT YOU'LL OWN Product Strategy & Workflow - Define and execute the ambulatory coding roadmap, starting with primary care and expanding to additional code families and specialties based on customer needs and measurable value. - Spend time with clinicians, coders, and revenue-cycle teams to understand how encounters are documented, coded, reviewed, and billed, and use that understanding to decide what we build. - Own the clinician and coding-team experience, from recommendations during the visit through review, exception handling, and writeback into Epic's existing charge workflows. - Work closely with our ambulatory teams so coding uses the right clinical context without creating more work for clinicians. Coding Quality & Automation - Partner with Engineering, Clinical AI, and coding experts to improve accuracy and coverage across the code sets we support. - Establish clear evaluations for coding accuracy, completeness of the encounter, supporting documentation, and reliability of Epic writeback. Understand where errors happen and prioritize the ones that matter most. - Define when a coding recommendation is ready for human review versus when an encounter can be processed with less manual intervention, validating the approach with customer coding and compliance teams before expanding autonomy. - Build a repeatable approach for adding new code families and specialties rather than treating each one as a separate product. Customer Outcomes - Drive adoption with clinicians and coding teams. Identify where the product creates friction or fails to fit existing workflows, and fix it. - Measure code coverage, complete-encounter accuracy, manual review and exception rates, and the share of encounters that can be coded without routine human changes. - Work with Data, Value Attainment, and customer Finance and RCM teams to measure the value created through accurate revenue capture, less coding work, and reduced rework, distinguishing modeled value from results customers have realized. - Partner with GTM and Product Marketing to communicate what the product does, where it works well, and what value customers should expect. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Must-Haves - 3+ years of product management experience, with meaningful ownership of a product area from discovery through delivery and adoption. We care more about the quality of your experience and your rate of growth than years alone. - Track record of rapidly learning a complex domain and earning the trust of people who know it well. - Strong technical fluency - comfort with AI/ML products, data, APIs, and complex integrations. - Experience building products for workflows with multiple users or stakeholders, where reliability and getting the details right matter. - Strong written communication, product judgment, and the ability to make progress in ambiguity. - Based in SF, available to be in the office 3x/week. Nice-to-Haves - Healthcare, revenue-cycle, or professional coding experience, especially CPT, E/M, modifiers, and Epic Professional Billing (a plus, not a requirement - we hire on scorecard competencies, not domain pedigree). - Experience with AI-assisted workflows, model evaluations, or products that automate work previously done by people. - Prior 0-to-1 product experience. - Experience with enterprise customers and regulated products. Life at Ambience Working at Ambience means opting into a high-ownership, high-trust environment built for people who want to grow fast, operate decisively and focus on work that matters. This could be the right place for you if you want to - Work on mission-critical AI technology that directly improves clinicians’ day-to-day lives and health system financial health across some of the most complex, high-stakes workflows in the world. - Join a “dream team” culture where we hire exceptional people, expect exceptional outcomes and invest deeply in feedback and continuous growth. We operate as a championship team, and that means being ok with hard, uncomfortable, ambiguous problems that lead to real greatness. - Operate with real ownership and accountability in an environment where there are no bystanders: If something is broken, we fix it! You will have meaningful autonomy and be expected to drive work to completion. To help you do your best work, we pair these expectations with benefits intentionally designed to help you feel supported and safe at Ambience and beyond. Some of our key benefits include - Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents - 401(k) with a company match of up to 3% of base salary - A remote-friendly culture (with a San Francisco HQ) and full equipment provisioning to ensure you can work effectively from wherever you’re based. - Parental leave to support your family needs - Annual company-wide off-sites, team off-sites and regular team lunches and all-hands gatherings, with travel, lodging and meals covered - Flexible time off with no annual cap, company-wide holidays and an annual holiday shutdown from December 24–January 1 designed to support real rest and long-term sustainability.
