The Gist…
The API Platform Operations and Automation Engineer supports the reliable operation and continuous improvement of the platform. This mid-level role combines hands-on platform operations with behind-the-scenes technical support for API consumers and producers. The engineer will troubleshoot REST API and platform issues, support deployments and routine maintenance, and help improve the team’s infrastructure-as-code, configuration-management, and containerized deployment capabilities.
This role will also identify recurring customer-support and operational needs and translate them into practical improvements. Depending on the problem, the appropriate solution may include clearer documentation, an improved process, a script, a lightweight automation, or a platform enhancement. The engineer will work closely with Infrastructure, Customer Success and Support, User Experience Research, team leadership, and government partners. This is not primarily an evangelist or front-line customer-service role, but it requires the ability to communicate technical findings clearly and participate in customer-support activities when needed.
• Identify recurring manual tasks and work with team members and government partners to prioritize practical automation opportunities.
• Design, build, and maintain Power Automate workflows for request intake, assignment, approvals, notifications, reminders, escalations, and status tracking.
• Develop Power Apps that help staff capture information, manage requests, track progress, and access operational records.
• Connect approved Microsoft 365 tools, including Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, and Excel, to reduce duplicate entry and improve coordination.
• Improve shared-inbox operations through automated receipt logging, categorization, assignment, response tracking, and follow-up reminders.
• Support API onboarding and customer-support processes through improved handoffs, milestone tracking, and workflow automation.
• Develop tracking and reporting capabilities that provide visibility into request volume, response times, aging items, and process bottlenecks.
• Use REST APIs and approved connectors to exchange data between systems and troubleshoot integration issues.
• Evaluate available agency-approved tools, including UiPath where appropriate, based on the business need and operating environment.
• Develop limited scripts when approved and appropriate to supplement existing automation capabilities.
• Test solutions with users, validate business rules and exception scenarios, and incorporate feedback.
• Monitor automated workflows, investigate failures, and implement logging, error handling, notifications, and recovery procedures.
• Coordinate solution permissions, connections, configuration changes, and deployments with platform administrators and infrastructure staff.
• Develop and maintain process maps, technical documentation, operating procedures, and support guides.
• Follow agency security, privacy, accessibility, and data-handling requirements when developing and maintaining solutions.
• Measure improvements through reduced manual effort, fewer errors, faster turnaround, and improved operational visibility.
• Provide technical support for API integration and platform issues related to onboarding and automated workflows, collaborating with infrastructure specialists as needed.
• US Citizenship Required to obtain Public Trust
• DHS USCIS Public Trust preferred
