Software Engineer - XIL Platform at Glydways

Job description

Who we are: Glydways is reimagining what public transit can be. We believe that mobility is the gateway to opportunity—connecting people to housing, education, employment, commerce, and care. By making transportation more accessible, affordable, and sustainable, we empower communities to thrive and unlock economic and social prosperity. Our mission is to revolutionize transit with a solution that delivers high capacity, exceptional user experiences, unmatched affordability, and minimal environmental impact. The Glydways system is a groundbreaking network of carbon-neutral, interconnected transit pathways powered by standardized autonomous vehicles on dedicated roadways. Operating 24/7 with on-demand access, it offers personalized and efficient mobility—without the burden of heavy upfront infrastructure costs or ongoing taxpayer subsidies. With Glydways, we’re building more than a transportation system; we’re creating a future where everyone, everywhere, has the freedom to move. Meet the team: The XIL Platform team is the vital bridge between our software and the real-world environment. We are part of the Software Foundations & Architecture organization, and our core mission is to build the Middleware, Testing, Simulation, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) infrastructure for Glydways. We don't just write test scripts; we build the overarching frameworks that allow those tests to run seamlessly across software, simulation, and physical hardware. We ensure that the software powering our autonomous transit systems is safe, performant, and reliable before a vehicle ever hits the track. Roles & Responsibilities: As part of this role you’ll be responsible for: Design and architect unified testing frameworks that enable seamless portability of test cases across Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and simulation environments. Build, configure, and maintain physical HIL benches and associated hardware interfaces (e.g., CAN adapters) to simulate real-world vehicle environments. Integrate automated HIL testing directly into the Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines, ensuring code stability and preventing regressions prior to merging. Collaborate closely with software engineering teams to understand their needs, identify and implement improvements in our Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Infrastructure and Continuous Integration (CI) systems. Monitor and report on runtime performance, system health, and reliability metrics across all HIL testing platforms. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Professional C++ experience building and maintaining libraries and test frameworks — not just modifying existing code. Our framework is C++ end to end: test fixtures, simulators, monitors, and every test case. This includes fluency with GoogleTest or an equivalent (fixtures, parameterized tests) and diagnosing flaky, timing-sensitive failures. You will write C++ on day one. Deep understanding of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and simulation testing strategies, particularly for safety-critical systems. Python and Bash for CI tooling, bench automation, and scripting is a plus. Strong knowledge of CI/CD best practices and principles. Direct experience with Buildkite is a plus. Hands-on ability to troubleshoot physical test benches, including reading electrical schematics and using lab tools like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and PCAN adapters. Experience using infrastructure-as-code and environment management tools (specifically Nix, or similar tools like Docker/Ansible) to ensure reproducible test environments. Glydways provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
