Job description

About Dexterity At Dexterity, we believe robots can positively transform the world. Our breakthrough technology frees people to do the creative, inspiring, problem-solving jobs that humans do best by enabling robots to handle repetitive and physically difficult work. We’re starting with warehouse automation, where the need for smarter, more resilient supply chains impacts millions of lives and businesses around the world. Dexterity's full-stack robotics systems pick, move, pack, and collaborate with human-like skill, awareness, and learning capabilities. Our systems are software-driven, hardware-agnostic, and have already picked over 15 million goods in production. And did we mention we’re customer-obsessed? Every decision, large and small, is driven by one question – how can we empower our customers with robots to do more than they thought was possible? Dexterity is one of the fastest growing companies in robotics, backed by world-class investors such as Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Obvious Ventures. We’re a diverse and multidisciplinary team with a culture built on passion, trust, and dedication. Come join Dexterity and help make intelligent robots a reality! About the Role We are seeking an experienced Hardware Engineering Architect to define and scale Dexterity’s hardware. As a Hardware Architect, you will be responsible to pioneer across all aspects of hardware activities. The primary responsibility will be to establish hardware architecture to drive standardization, modularity and deep dive into key components to drive hardware design from feasibility to commercialization. You will provide direction for engineering design, as well as ensure design for manufacturing to meet appropriate market requirements for functionality, durability, reliability, and cost. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the direction of future hardware design, as well as motivate the optimization of current design. Your contributions will be crucial in advancing Dexterity's global expansion and growth. Day to Day Activities Lead technical roadmap development for company’s hardware Lead hardware architecture design and implementation to maximize hardware reusability across multiple applications Lead the research of new materials, components, technologies, and their appropriate use Lead hardware block/sub-blocks diagram, promote reusability, flexibility, and maintainability Collaborate with peer architects and subject matter experts to facilitate delivery of simplified and differentiated Hardware solutions that solve customer problems that balances efficiency, simplicity, power density, reliability, quality, and cost. Collaborate with cross functional teams to develop and qualify products to meet specifications and regulatory requirements Modularize existing product designs Conduct design reviews Support hardware engineering requirements, design verification, DFMEA, DFx activities and vendor interactions Desired Skills BS or higher in ME, EE, or other related engineering disciplines 15+ years of related work experience, including having advanced designs from initial concept through scale production Ability to manage multiple engineering efforts concurrently Experience with designing complex robotics systems Hands-on mechanical design experience using 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks, including 2D drawings and simulations Experience with electrical systems design and integration for industrial applications Experience with Hardware and Software interfaces to make decisions for hardware architecture Experience designing end effectors / grippers / end-of-the-arm-tooling for industrial applications Familiar with Product Life Cycle stages and supply chain process from concept to mass production manufacturing Familiar with using PDM and PLM systems for the development life cycle on a day-to-day basis High level of technical writing proficiency (specs, test plans, reports, white papers, etc.) Physical Requirements Loud work environment with temperature change due to seasons at office, warehouses and clients’/customers’ locations Walking/standing long hours and exposed to loud environment/machine and during travel Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Additional Information Travel 15% to vendor / customer locations as projects demand Base pay is one element of our Total Rewards package which may also include comprehensive benefits and equity etc., depending on eligibility. The annual base salary range for this position is from $160,000 to $200,000.
