Job description

ABOUT MORPHO Morpho is a leading Decentralized Finance (DeFi) lending protocol backed by a16z crypto, Paradigm, Ribbit Capital, Apollo, Vaneck, Coinbase Ventures, Variant and 50 others to build an open credit network giving anyone, anywhere, access to the best possible terms. Morpho is experiencing exponential adoption, with over billion in deposits on the network and used by institutional clients including Bitwise, Galaxy, and Anchorage Digital and the largest crypto exchanges, such as Coinbase, Binance, and Kraken. Now, Morpho is scaling its team of contributors to establish itself as the open credit network, not just of DeFi, but of the world. WHY MORPHO EXISTS Everyone has the potential to build something great for the world. But fulfilling that ambition almost always requires more: people willing to trust you with their capital. Yet access to capital still depends on where you live, who you know, and which institutions are willing to trust you. Even when capital is available, it sits fragmented across disconnected networks and hidden behind intermediaries. The result is a system that fails most of the people it should serve. Borrowers overpay. Lenders earn less than they should. Many are shut out entirely, not because they are unworthy of credit, but because today's infrastructure was never built to connect them. Morpho exists to solve this. Full article here morpho.org. LOCATION Remote (Europe only, from GMT to GMT+2 to ensure sufficient overlap with the rest of the team). HOW WE WORK We move fast on hard problems in a nascent market with no set playbook: navigating uncertainty is part of the job. You'll be challenged: anyone can question work and decisions must be justified. We keep a high bar and match it with high support: we help each other unblock and share context openly, with low ego. ROLE The mission of this role is to build and own the backend systems that power Morpho's consumer-facing products: reliable, performant APIs and data pipelines that serve accurate financial data to users at scale. RESPONSIBILITIES - Develop backend features using TypeScript and Node to deliver clear product outcomes for the Morpho Consumer team. - Design and evolve APIs (REST, GraphQL, …) and data models to expose accurate, secure financial data to the frontend with sub-second response times. - Operate and improve PostgreSQL-backed data pipelines to ensure performance, reliability, and availability as transaction volumes grow. - Collaborate closely with frontend engineers and product to scope, ship, and iterate on end-to-end features across the Consumer product. - Identify and implement architecture improvements: improving data processing, caching, and API layer design to simplify systems and reduce operational burden. - Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues to maintain a high-quality user experience. - Write clear, concise documentation and async updates to keep stakeholders aligned across time zones. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE FIRST 30 DAYS Ramped up on the Consumer API, codebase, and delivery practices. Shipped the first meaningful feature safely to production. Established clear async communication habits and collaboration rhythms with product and frontend peers. FIRST 4 MONTHS Owns delivery of scoped features end-to-end. Identifying and starting to implement architecture improvements to the API and data processing layer. Contributing to higher reliability through better observability, testing, and incident response. IN 1 YEAR The go-to engineer for the Consumer API, with deep functional and technical context. Consistently delivering high-impact features and taking full ownership of architecture decisions within the Consumer vertical. MUST-HAVE EXPERIENCE & SKILLS - 8-10+ years of backend development experience in production TypeScript/Node environments. - Hands-on experience with REST APIs and relational databases, especially PostgreSQL. - Experience working on a backend-for-frontend stack, or collaborating closely with frontend teams to serve product data. - Track record operating production systems at scale: reliability, observability, and performance under real load. - Strong interest in the Web3 ecosystem and comfort learning the DeFi domain. - Comfort operating in fast-changing, ambiguous environments where priorities shift. - Strong ownership and autonomy: takes responsibility for outcomes end-to-end. - Clear and crisp async communication: writes well and keeps distributed teams aligned. - Team-first mindset, low ego. - Humble. PERKS & BENEFITS We design benefits around deep work and growth, so you can do the best work of your career. Expect fair, top-tier compensation, real flexibility, time together in Paris, great health coverage, and support to keep learning. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and hire based on talent, potential, and values alignment.
