Job description

About Lumafield: Lumafield was founded in 2019 to upgrade manufacturing. We are engineers with deep experience across the product development cycle, from initial ideas to shipping hardware, across industries and specializations, who became frustrated by the cost and complexity of modern manufacturing. So we decided to upgrade it. Engineers make million-dollar decisions every day, and they need tools that give them the greatest possible insight into their products. By offering unprecedented visibility into products, as well as AI-driven tools that highlight problems and generate quantitative data, Lumafield promises to revolutionize the way complex products are created, manufactured, and used across industries. We started with industrial CT scanning, which for us was the most valuable but underutilized tool in the manufacturing toolbox, enabling us to rapidly inspect essential components non-destructively. We rebuilt the whole system, from X-ray capture, to computer vision analysis, to web-based collaboration, to the entire business model, making the most advanced manufacturing tech more accessible to every industry. Our company, like our platform, is designed for upgrades. We’re building for greater intelligence, autonomy, and speed. For deeper vision, operational excellence, and powerful insights. And then we'll upgrade it all again. Lumafield is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. and has an office in Cambridge, MA. About the role: We are seeking a Head of People to lead Lumafield's HR, Talent Acquisition, and Workplace Experience functions. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, you'll own and drive our people programs, lead our recruiting team, and provide hands-on HR partnership to leaders across the company, helping them build, manage, and develop high-performing teams. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is equally comfortable setting direction and rolling up their sleeves to get things done. You'll own everything from building effective people processes and developing our managers to leading recruiting efforts and helping us attract, develop, and retain exceptional talent. This is a high-impact opportunity to help shape the next chapter of Lumafield's growth. If you’re passionate about building an environment where people can do the best work of their careers, reach out. This role is a full-time, in-person role at our HQ in San Francisco, CA. What you'll do: Lead the People team--including HR, Talent Acquisition, and Workplace Experience--setting priorities, developing team members, and ensuring strong execution across all functions. Own and continuously improve people programs, including onboarding, performance management, employee development, and employee engagement. Partner closely with managers to navigate employee challenges, address performance issues, and support effective team management. Oversee talent acquisition strategy and execution, partnering with hiring managers and the recruiting team to develop hiring plans, improve recruiting processes, and attract exceptional talent. Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations across CA, MA, and remote jurisdictions. Own and optimize our people systems and processes, including hands-on administration of our HRIS. Build right-sized processes that support the business as it evolves, balancing long-term improvements with immediate operational needs. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance. About you: 10+ years of progressive experience in HR, People Operations, or HR Business Partner roles, including experience leading teams and owning people programs. Demonstrated success building, implementing, and scaling people programs in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Experience leading or overseeing Talent Acquisition, with a strong understanding of recruiting strategy, workforce planning, and hiring operations. Strong HR business partnership experience, including navigating complex employee relations matters and driving performance management. Proven ability to operate both strategically and tactically, with a willingness to take a hands-on approach to solving problems. Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and influence leaders at all levels. Strong operational judgment, analytical skills, and experience using HR systems and data to drive decisions. Comfortable navigating ambiguity, changing priorities, and the demands of a scaling business. Strong working knowledge of California employment law, including CFRA, FMLA, and wage and hour compliance. Lumafield offers both competitive cash and equity compensation, as well as a health & wellness stipend, 401k, parental leave, flexible PTO, commuter benefits, company wide events and more! Lumafield is committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, because the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. Do you feel like your skills don’t meet every single requirement listed? We encourage you to apply anyway – If you’re excited about our technology, the opportunity, and are eager to learn more we’d love to hear from you!
