Job description

Thanks for your interest in Success Academy! Running a large, fast-growing, and high-performing network of public charter schools takes a village - families, children, teachers, staff and faculty, advocates, and supporters alike. We are growing fast in New York and expanding to Florida, and we would love to welcome you to our community! We work tirelessly every day to ensure children have access to a fun, rigorous, whole-child education regardless of zip code or economic status. When you join SA, you play a part in giving every student who walks through our doors a fair shot at reaching his or her potential. The Opportunity As a Business Operations Manager, you’ll lead the people, systems, and resources that keep a school running safely and effectively. As a key member of the school leadership team, you’ll lead the operations that shape how the school runs each day, own critical systems, drive priorities forward, and create an exceptional experience for students, families, and staff. You’ll manage and develop a team, oversee budgets and operations, improve systems, solve problems, and plan ahead. You’ll partner closely with school leadership to align priorities, anticipate needs, and ensure strong operations support the school’s goals. This role is ideal for a people-centered leader who takes ownership, solves problems decisively, strengthens systems, and is motivated by seeing their leadership make a meaningful impact. What You’ll Do Lead and Develop a Team — Build a strong operations team by setting clear expectations, coaching and developing people, and creating a culture of ownership and accountability. Help team members grow their judgment, confidence, and ability to lead their work independently. Run Strong Operations — Oversee the systems that keep the school running, from facilities and safety to technology, purchasing, student and family operations, and daily operations. Maintain high standards while finding ways to simplify and make processes more effective. Solve Problems and Plan Ahead — Anticipate challenges, identify risks, and act before they become larger issues. When priorities shift, use sound judgment to make decisions and move quickly toward solutions. Balance immediate needs with long-term priorities to keep the school prepared and running smoothly. Manage Budgets and Resources — Own the school’s operational budget and resources, including planning, purchasing, expense management, and responsible use of funds. Use data and strategic financial judgment to make decisions that optimize resource use and support school priorities. Build Strong Partnerships — Cultivate strong partnerships across the school community. Build trust, align priorities, and influence others to solve problems, remove barriers, and deliver strong outcomes. Serve as a trusted operational partner to school leadership, staff, families, and external partners. Improve How We Work — Use data, trends, and observation to identify gaps, strengthen systems, and prevent recurring issues. Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities, strengthening systems, and streamlining operations to make them more efficient and reliable. Maintain an Active Presence Across the School — Remain visible and accessible throughout the school building while responding promptly to operational needs. The role requires extended periods of standing and walking, frequent use of stairs, and the ability to move supplies and support the setup of school spaces and events. What Success Looks Like The school runs safely, smoothly, and consistently. The operations team is strong, accountable, and growing. Anticipate and respond to operational challenges with urgency, pivoting quickly as circumstances evolve. Systems are efficient, reliable, and continuously improving. Budgets and resources are managed responsibly. Staff and families experience clear communication and strong support. Strong operations give educators more time to focus on teaching and students more time to learn. School leaders have a trusted operational partner who can anticipate needs, solve problems, and advance priorities. Who You Are You are a mission-driven people and operations leader who believes every scholar and family deserves an exceptional school experience. You take pride in creating a school that feels safe, welcoming, organized, and ready for learning each day. You do not simply keep systems running; you set a high bar, bring people with you, and take personal ownership of the details that shape a school community. You will thrive in this role if you: Lead with ownership, urgency, and follow-through. You notice what needs attention and take action without waiting to be directed. Are a visible, hands-on leader who cares about the details, from the condition of the building to the experience families and staff have when they walk through the door. Believe that strong routines and clear expectations create consistency, trust, and more time for teaching and learning. Hold a high bar for yourself and others, while providing the coaching, feedback, and support people need to grow. Are comfortable having direct conversations and making thoughtful decisions about people when the situation calls for it. Build genuine investment in strong operations, helping others move beyond compliance toward shared ownership of school standards. Stay calm, decisive, and solutions-oriented when priorities shift or urgent issues arise. Have strong judgment and a sharp eye for risk. You notice when a system, space, or standard is slipping and address it before it becomes a larger problem. Approach challenges with curiosity and persistence. You look for root causes, use data and observation to identify patterns, and improve systems rather than repeatedly solving the same problem. Build trust across teams and communicate clearly, influence others, and hold partners accountable for shared outcomes. Are energized by a fast-paced environment and motivated by creating a school community that is reliable, joyful, and well cared for. Qualifications 3–5 years of professional experience; bachelor’s degree preferred. CPR Certificate preferred. Experience leading, coaching, or developing others. Experience managing complex operations, systems, budgets, or resources. Experience in operations, business management, hospitality, retail, nonprofit leadership, education, or another fast-paced, people-focused environment is a strong foundation for this role. You do not need to come from a school to be successful in this role. We’re looking for leaders who know how to manage people, own complex operations, and turn challenges into solutions. Why Success Academy At Success Academy, operations leadership is school leadership. Every system you strengthen, decision you make, and team member you develop helps create a school where scholars can focus on learning, families feel welcomed and supported, and educators can do their best work. As a Business Operations Manager, you will have meaningful ownership over a team, budget, and the critical systems that shape the school experience each day. You will be trusted to lead with sound judgment, solve complex challenges, and build the conditions that allow an entire school community to thrive. This is a role for someone who wants their leadership to matter. If you are energized by building strong teams, creating order from complexity, and making a visible difference for scholars and families, we want to hear from you. Bring your ideas, high standards, and drive to help create exceptional school experiences every day.
