Job description

Supports implementation and testing of distributed system components under close guidance. Learns and applies basic scalability concepts (horizontal/vertical), fault tolerance (redundancy, replication, failover), and recovery-oriented principles. Assists with load/performance tests, telemetry and alert setup, and runbook-driven incident response. Implements scoped features and test scenarios within existing systems, follows change and security procedures, updates documentation, and maintains simple automation/IaC scripts while escalating complex issues to senior engineers. Key Responsibilities System Design & Architecture - System Scalability: –Learn to assist in the implementation of components of distributed systems that support horizontal and vertical scaling under the guidance of senior engineers. –Implement scalability requirements for assigned components. –Learn about the use of data plane platforms for large-scale data retrieval, storage, and processing. –Execute performance and load testing, with guidance. System Design & Architecture - System Reliability Design: –Collaborate with the team to build fault-tolerant components capable of withstanding in-service updates by learning about redundancy, replication, and automatic failover mechanisms. –Learn about recovery oriented computing principles and assist in applying them to component designs. System Design & Architecture - System Reliability Performance: –With assistance implements testing and alarming configurations to detect issues/failures. –Supports efforts to recover from failures by drafting and executing runbooks and operational procedures, under direct guidance. –Learns how to build dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms to monitor component health. System Design & Architecture - Correctness / Availability: –Implements functional requirements and testing for assigned features within an existing system under guidance. –Implements tests scenarios (e.g., fault-injection, brown-out) to evaluate system correctness, under guidance. Operational Troubleshooting & Incident Management: –Learns to diagnose and debug issues in system components to support ongoing operation, under supervision. –Follows protocols to prevent interruptions, ensuring no maintenance windows are required for customers and users when resolving issues. –Runs basic automation scripts and tooling to troubleshoot operational issues. –Participates in operational support rotations, assisting in incident responses and root cause investigations. Compliance & Security: –Assists in the execution of remediation plans to address identified security gaps, under supervision. –Supports the creation and updating of documentation to ensure cloud infrastructure is in compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations. Automation & Change Management: –Assists in maintaining basic automation scripts and tools (e.g., Infrastructure as Code (IaC)). –Adheres to change management plans for patching, updating, and rolling back applications, under direct guidance. Core Responsibilities Planning & Execution: –Completes assigned tasks and monitors timelines to ensure timely completion of work in accordance with project requirements, with supervision. –Follows direction to prioritize work and adjust to shifts in resources or timelines. Collaboration & Partnership: –Collaborate with team members to better understand expectations and contribute to shared objectives. –Build a basic understanding of business, stakeholder, and/or customer needs with guidance. Problem Solving: –Follow standard procedures to identify and escalate issues to senior team members. –Collect and review basic data and/or information to troubleshoot common errors. Continuous Learning: –Build knowledge and learn new skills and/or tools aligned with industry trends and best practices as directed. –Incorporate feedback and participate in training to improve skills. Continuous Improvement: –Begin to identify ways to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of processes, protocols, and workflows with guidance.
