Job description

About AngelList Private markets are the new public markets. The most important companies of this era are private, and almost no one can own them. What's missing is the financial system public markets spent a century building: exchanges, custodians, brokers, and ways for ordinary people to buy in. Private markets, now $28T, never had the equivalent. AngelList is building it. The last decade of structural innovation in venture happened here: syndicates, SPVs at scale, Rolling Funds, scout programs. Today we have $200B+ in assets and 30,000+ startups funded on our platform. The rest of private markets is next. Funds is the software and services behind private funds, Nova is the banking network, Meridian is the wealth platform for accredited investors, and USVC is the brand behind a registered fund that lets anyone invest in venture. Working here means an unusual amount of agency on a problem that matters. Titles are closer to suggestions, and there are about 200 of us building what private markets never had. Come build it with us. About the Role Nova is building the banking and payments network for private markets. Funds, fund administrators, and their investors use its software to manage subscriptions, capital calls, and distributions. Today, Nova supports $1.2B+ in deposits, $100M+ in weekly transfers across six bank integrations, and ~150k verified investors. These are some of the highest-stakes moments in the private markets. Fund managers, investors, and administrators are moving real money and expect every detail to be right. Nova earns and keeps the trust of GPs and LPs by meeting that expectation every time. We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and grow Nova Product. This team owns the TypeScript codebase for the entire customer experience, including subscriptions, data rooms, distributions, capital calls, and the emerging LP wallet and investor portal. This is a hands-on, player-coach role. You'll spend most of your time growing the team, driving the roadmap with product and design partners, and setting the technical vision. You'll stay close enough to the code to unblock and support the team, but you typically won't write critical-path code. As the Product group grows, you'll help shape how it is organized. You'll report to the Head of Nova Engineering. What You'll Do Own the results of a Nova Product team responsible for the product experience across subscriptions, data rooms, distributions, capital calls, and the LP wallet and portal. Grow the team from ~4 engineers to 5-7 and help shape the structure of the broader Product group as it scales. Work closely with Product, Design, stakeholders, and the Foundations engineering teams to make progress against the roadmap. Set a clear technical direction with the team's senior and staff engineers. Maintain a high standard of quality across workflows with high stakes and strict compliance requirements, where real money and investor identity are on the line. Stay hands-on where it helps. Unblock the team and maintain enough technical context to ask good questions and make sound tradeoffs. You Have 2+ years of engineering management experience, including hiring, developing, and getting the best work from engineers. A record of shipping and scaling customer-facing products, ideally in complex domains where quality is critical. You care about the user experience and pay attention to the details. Experience building in an environment with high stakes and strict compliance requirements, where every detail matters. Experience with fintech, payments, or identity and KYC is a bonus. Experience with a modern TypeScript stack, or the ability to learn it quickly. Good startup judgment. You're comfortable with ambiguity and add enough process to help the team without over-building it. How Success Will Be Measured You've learned the team's systems and can discuss the full Nova product surface. Nova's flagship workflows, including subscriptions, distributions, and capital calls, are consistently high quality and increasingly self-service. For example, 95%+ of distributions complete end-to-end with zero manual intervention. New payments, wallet, and identity products ship on a clear, coherent architecture, and the product remains highly reliable as it scales. The team is healthy and growing. You've hired toward 5-7 engineers, and the team is clear on its roadmap. Working Here If you don’t meet every requirement above, we still encourage you to apply. We value complementary strengths and operators who learn by doing. AngelList has offices in a few cities, with our engineering hub in San Francisco. We’re building our engineering and product teams around this hub to make the most of in-person collaboration. We have a hybrid in-office model: teammates come in at least 2 days per week (Tuesdays and either Wednesday or Thursday).
