Job description

At Moxie, we empower ambitious aesthetic entrepreneurs to build profitable, independent practices—without burnout, overwhelm, or guesswork. In just a few years, we've grown from an idea to a global, remote-first team now supporting 700+ practices nationwide. Our purpose is simple: to unlock sustainable success for aesthetic entrepreneurs, at every stage of their journey. DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING We're looking for a Director of Engineering to become the day-to-day leader of Moxie's Engineering organization. You'll own delivery, organizational health, manager development, staffing, and engineering operating strategy for roughly 60 engineers, and you'll lead our AI strategy and execution across both the product and the software development lifecycle. Engineering is Moxie's largest organization, and this hire is how it gets a leader with the time and technical depth to take it to the next level. You'll partner daily with the Head of Engineering and with Product leadership through the Product and Engineering operating cadence.. You'll inherit a productive, fast-moving engineering organization at an exciting inflection point, with the opportunity to further mature our engineering practices and help shape our transition toward AI-powered software development. OUR OBJECTIVES FOR THE ROLE - Become the clear leader of Engineering. Within three months all seven EMs report to you with a working management cadence, you run the Engineering side of the Product and Engineering operating cadence, and you are the first escalation point for cross-team delivery, staffing, and execution issues. By month six you own delivery end to end and routine issues resolve without the Head of Engineering. - Mature existing measures and drive improvement. Within three months, you build on and refine existing measures of Engineering performance and health (Linear, DORA, and reliability metrics) and implement 2–3 concrete operating improvements. By month six, those KPIs are reviewed regularly and drive action across teams, with measurable gains in delivery predictability, cycle time, or reliability. - Make AI a source of leverage. Assess current AI usage across the product and SDLC in your first quarter, drive at least one AI or agentic initiative into production use by month six, and by month nine embed AI-assisted development in the Engineering operating model while holding production AI to clear standards for architecture, security, cost, and reliability . - Set an opinionated technical roadmap. By month nine Engineering ships meaningfully more customer and technical value per engineer, with capacity deliberately allocated across product delivery, architecture, platform investment, reliability, developer productivity, and technical debt, and aligned with Product and company priorities. WE'RE LOOKING FOR - 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership and at least 3 years leading managers and technical leaders. - Management depth. You've run a 30-60 person engineering organization through multiple Engineering Managers, ideally at a Series B-D product company, and you set a consistent management bar, develop and coach EMs, and handle performance, staffing, and org design decisions directly, including through a reduction in agency reliance. - Operating rigor. You've built KPI systems (DORA, cycle time, reliability) that teams actually use to change behavior, and you can partner with Product leaders to surface risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs early. - Proven experience building production AI and agentic systems. You've shipped AI in a product or SDLC with real standards for evals, observability, security, and cost, and you can explain the ROI impact of the work in detail. - Technical judgment. You’re very comfortable with system design, software design patterns , and engineering processes & principles (agile, scrum, SRE, devops, etc). You’re comfortable reviewing and designing architecture, and in making capacity tradeoffs between feature delivery and platform investment, and know how to build relationships and earn the trust of your senior engineers and EMs. - Comfort with real delegation and real authority. You have experience in building and shaping engineering organizations, from hiring strategy and people management to maturing the SDLC and org design. You’ve worked closely with founders and senior technical leaders, and also know how to bring the best out of engineering managers and staff engineers in your org. Health tech or vertical SaaS experience is a plus. This is not a role for someone who wants to manage purely through other leaders at arm's length from the technical work; you'll stay close enough to the architecture and the AI roadmap to guide them. WHY JOIN US? - A true Engineering leadership seat at a Series C healthcare technology company, with an organization of roughly 60 engineers and meaningful ownership over delivery, org design, talent, technical execution, and strategy. - AI is a core part of the mandate. You'll have the mandate and the support to make AI a material source of leverage across both Moxie Suite and how we build it. - Above all, we're in this to empower small business owners to own and grow their businesses. If you succeed, Med Spas will remain the opportunity for independent owner-operators instead of being dominated by a small number of large chains. If that speaks to you, speak to us. - We have much left to build. But given the market feedback we're getting and our founding team's company-building experience, we think we are writing the next great chapter of a real success story. - Competitive salary and stock, and generous health, dental, and vision coverage. At Moxie, we believe in creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, trusted, and included. Our team lives by our values: act as owners, give more than we take, move with speed and care, and simplify and learn every day. We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to apply. If you require any accommodations to fully participate in the interview process, please let us know, we’re happy to assist.
