Job description

Alternative Payments is building the financial operating system for SMBs, consolidating the disconnected tech stack that holds service-based businesses back. Starting with MSPs, we’ve spent five years perfecting accounts receivable, and we’re now expanding into accounts payable, AI-powered analytics, and beyond. We’re at an inflection point: closing the loop on money movement and laying the foundation for a platform that will reshape how service businesses operate financially. We’re growing fast, thinking big, and building a global team that wants to be part of something that lasts. We believe the best solutions come from diverse perspectives, deep collaboration, and a shared obsession with customer impact. If you’re energized by real problems, real customers, and real impact, we want to hear from you! WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR We’re looking for a Senior Product Marketing Manager to help build the product marketing function at Alternative Payments. As we expand beyond accounts receivable into accounts payable, AI-powered analytics and broader money movement, we need someone who can define who we’re building for, shape how we communicate our value and bring Product, Sales and Marketing together around a clear go-to-market strategy. You’ll own the foundational product marketing work across our products and verticals—from ICPs, personas and buyer journeys to positioning, product launches and competitive intelligence. This is a hands-on builder role for someone who understands what strong product marketing looks like, is comfortable creating the motions that do not yet exist here and can turn customer and commercial insight into a story the market understands. You’ll be joining a growing team at an important stage in our evolution, with significant visibility and the opportunity to shape how product marketing operates at Alternative Payments. This hybrid role is available to candidates who are eligible to work in Canada. You'll be required to spend 3 days a week (Mon - Wed) in our centrally located downtown office (Queen W + Spadina). WHAT YOU’LL DO - Own and evolve our ICPs, buyer personas and buyer journeys across our products and priority verticals. - Develop clear, differentiated positioning and messaging grounded in customer needs, market evidence and the problems our products solve. - Partner closely with Product to understand the roadmap, influence go-to-market priorities and determine how and when new capabilities should be introduced to the market. - Own the product launch roadmap and go-to-market strategy for new products and major releases, coordinating across Product, Sales and Marketing from planning through execution. - Build and maintain our competitive intelligence program, including competitor positioning, pricing, product direction, key differentiators and defensible reasons to believe. - Analyze sales calls, pipeline performance, win/loss data, customer feedback and market research to identify why we win, why we lose and which messages resonate most strongly. - Conduct customer, prospect and Sales interviews and supplement internal insight with third-party research, user testing or market studies where needed. - Translate research into practical resources that help our GTM teams succeed, including messaging frameworks, sales enablement, objection handling and launch narratives. - Shape the story behind product-led campaigns and launch moments, including briefing content and developing the narrative for webinars, presentations and other market-facing initiatives. - Lead working sessions and build alignment across Product, Sales, Marketing and senior leadership, confidently recommending a direction when perspectives differ. - Establish the processes, workplans and measures of success needed to demonstrate the impact of product marketing over time. - Use AI and emerging tools to accelerate research, synthesize customer and sales insights and improve the quality and efficiency of your work. WHAT YOU’LL BRING - 5+ years of B2B SaaS product marketing experience, with meaningful ownership of positioning, messaging, buyer research and go-to-market strategy. - Experience independently leading product launches from early planning through market execution and adoption. - A strong understanding of product marketing fundamentals and the ability to build effective product marketing programs without relying on an established playbook or large supporting team. - Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, including experience with customer interviews, sales-call analysis, win/loss data, segmentation and competitive intelligence. - A track record of turning customer and market insight into differentiated positioning and messaging that Sales, Marketing and Product teams can put into practice. - Evidence that your work has influenced commercial outcomes such as product adoption, win rates, cross-sell, upsell or entry into a new market. - Strong cross-functional leadership skills and the confidence to influence senior stakeholders, facilitate alignment and constructively challenge assumptions. - The ability to move comfortably between strategic thinking and hands-on execution—from analyzing pipeline data to writing a launch narrative or briefing an executive. - Curiosity and a “detective” mindset: you enjoy getting close to customers and sellers, asking the right questions and finding the evidence needed to make a strong recommendation. - Comfort working through ambiguity, setting priorities and creating structure in a fast-moving scale-up environment. - AI literacy and an interest in using new tools to improve research and analysis; advanced technical or automation experience is not required. - Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to turn complex information into a clear and compelling market story. NICE TO HAVES - Experience in MSP, FinTech, payments, startup, or scale-up environments. - Familiarity with Jobs to be Done, Bowtie and PLG frameworks WHAT WE OFFER - Competitive salary tailored to your experience, skills, and expertise. - The total compensation range for this role is $120K–$140K base, plus a 10% variable, for ~$130K–$155K OTE, and equity. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the approximate total target compensation for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including relevant skills, experience, education/training. - Equity opportunities so you can share in our growth and success. - Unlimited PTO and flexibility when you need it the most. - Yearly learning & development stipend to help you grow and do your best work. WHY CHOOSE ALTERNATIVE PAYMENTS? At Alternative Payments, you’ll do work that truly matters. - Own your impact: Lead meaningful, high-impact projects and collaborative initiatives that are shaping the future of FinTech and redefining how businesses get paid. - Collaborate: Work with a diverse, innovative team where every voice is heard and great ideas come from anywhere. - Grow with us: Your career journey is top of mind. We made a short video so you don't have to take our word for it. Get a glimpse of our product, our people, and the problems we're solving, then decide if it sounds like your kind of place. OUR VALUES - Transparency & Honesty: We communicate openly and truthfully with partners, investors, and each other so everyone understands where we stand and where we’re headed. - Resourcefulness & AI: We stay scrappy, find creative solutions, and make progress even when the path isn’t obvious. We have a bias for action and seek out the information and resources necessary to make decisions and move quickly. - Partnership: We win and lose together. We collaborate with our partners, investors, and teammates to tackle big challenges and reach shared goals. - Revolutionary & Boldness: We challenge conventions, take calculated risks, and build better, stronger solutions that move our business and the industry forward. - Accountability: We take ownership of our decisions and results.
