Job description

Are you a technologist who enjoys turning ambiguity into working software at scale, and who now wants to shape not just what gets built, but how an entire engineering organization builds it? Are you energized by mentoring the next generation of technical leaders, setting architectural direction across teams, and being the person others turn to when a problem has no obvious answer? Are you ready to define how the future of Workflow capabilities drives business value at Deloitte Global Employer Services (GES)? If you want your work to matter at global scale, in a stack that's actively modernizing (including AI-led engineering), and on a team that values judgment as much as code — we'd like to talk. Work you’ll do As a Principal Software Engineer on our GlobalAdvantage (GA) platform, you'll set the technical direction for the workflow and integration capabilities at the center of that transformation. This is a role for an engineer who operates as a force multiplier — someone who resolves the organization's hardest technical ambiguity, makes architectural calls with broad and lasting impact, and raises the engineering bar not just for a team, but across the platform. You'll own the technical strategy for workflow and integration end to end — from architecture through long-term platform health — and act as a primary technical authority others rely on. Day to day, you will: • Define and evolve product engineering for workflow and task management capabilities that power GES business processes — using Pega, .NET, C# and other technologies — and set standards other engineers build against. • Architect REST APIs, microservices, and integration services that scale across internal and client-facing platforms, with an eye toward long-term maintainability and reuse. • Own outcomes across multiple modules and workstreams — including technical strategy, effort estimation, risk identification, and production reliability — and are accountable for quality and architectural integrity across the codebase. • Drive technical design decisions, lead code and architecture reviews, and set engineering standards for the platform, exercising judgment on trade-offs that other engineers and leaders rely on. • Elevate the organization by mentoring senior and staff-level engineers, developing technical leadership in others, and building the practices that let the team scale — while staying open to sharpening your own thinking through architects, quality engineers, and peers. • Partner directly with product managers, architects, technical program managers, engineering managers, quality engineers, and business stakeholders to translate business strategy into technical roadmaps. • Guide continuous improvement of the platform — performance, application stability, supportability, and delivery practices — at an organizational level, not just within a single feature. A successful candidate would possess these skills: • Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team • Effective written and verbal communication skills • Meticulous attention to detail and quality of work product • Ability to build and sustain professional relationships • Ability to lead projects or workstreams • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor • Ability to meet deadlines • Ability to mentor and provide clear guidance to others The team At Deloitte Tax LLP, our Global Employer Services (GES) Technology Group consultants help multinational clients develop programs, processes and digital offerings to manage a global workforce and the compliance obligations arising from global mobility, business travel and remote working. People within our technology group come from a diverse background — they partner with our go-to-market teams and global clients to solve challenging problems and design experiences and products that anticipate what our Deloitte clients will want and solutions that keep them compliant with global and local regulations. Qualifications Required: • Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2 – 3 days per week. • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field. • 5+ years of software development experience in workflow automation, process management, or case management solutions — through COTS tools such as Pega, custom development such as .NET, or a combination — including a demonstrated track record of owning architecture and technical strategy for major platforms or product areas with minimal oversight. • Proven ability to set technical direction independently, and an established track record of developing, guiding, and mentoring senior and staff-level engineers. • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available. • Ability to travel up to 20%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve. • One of the following active accreditations obtained: • Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA • If not CPA eligible: • Licensed Attorney • Enrolled Agent • AWS Certified Solutions Architect — Professional • AWS Certified AI Practitioner • Pega Lead System Architect • Certified SAFE Agile Software Engineer • TOGAF Certified Architect • Certified SAFE Architect Preferred: • Deep exposure to AI-led engineering, GenAI-enabled automation, or agentic AI use cases, including a point of view on where they should be applied. • Experience with other enterprise workflow or low-code platforms such as ServiceNow, Appian, and Salesforce. • Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines, application modernization, containerization, performance tuning, and production support in distributed environments at scale. • Pega Certified Lead System Architect (CPLSA / LSA) strongly preferred; candidates actively progressing toward LSA will be viewed favorably. • A track record of setting technical direction for platforms, product lines, engineering organizations in workflow-heavy, compliance-oriented, or tax technology-related environments is a plus. • Effective written and verbal communication with technical and executive audiences, and a strong, demonstrated commitment to quality and architectural rigor. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $137,700 to $261,625. You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
