Job description

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will own and drive quality systems across the full hardware development and production lifecycle — from early prototypes through subassembly builds and into volume production at our contract manufacturer. You'll work closely with our mechanical, electrical, embedded software, and manufacturing teams to build robust quality processes, define test coverage strategies, and ensure our products meet reliability, safety, and performance requirements. Key job responsibilities Quality Systems & Process - Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems (QMS) appropriate for a hardware startup in early production - Establish and own incoming inspection, in-process inspection, and final inspection criteria and procedures - Define and drive First Article Inspection (FAI) processes with our contract manufacturer - Create and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), CAPAs, and deviation/waiver processes Documentation & Work Instructions - Author and maintain clear, accurate work instructions, assembly procedures, and inspection checklists for the production floor - Ensure documentation is version-controlled and synchronized with engineering changes - Partner with engineering to enforce Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) principles Contract Manufacturer Partnership - Serve as a key quality interface with contractors — conducting audits, reviewing quality plans, and driving resolution of production issues - Travel to CM facilities as needed to support builds and resolve quality escapes - Establish quality metrics and reporting cadences with CM leadership Reliability & Compliance - Lead or support DFMEA/PFMEA activities to proactively identify and mitigate failure modes - Support product safety and compliance activities (UL, CE, RoHS, UN38.3 for battery, etc.) - Drive reliability testing planning and execution, including environmental stress screening (ESS) and accelerated life testing (ALT) About the team Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe, and genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Our goal is simple: make robots people actually want to live and interact with in everyday human spaces. We believe that future won’t arrive until building for robotics becomes far more accessible. Today, too much effort is spent reinventing the fundamentals. We’re changing that by developing tightly integrated hardware and software systems that make it faster, safer, and more intuitive to create real-world robotic products. Our work spans the full stack: mechanical design, control systems, dynamic modeling, and intelligent software. The focus is not just functionality, but experience. We’re building robots that feel responsive, expressive, and genuinely useful. At Fauna, you’ll work at the frontier of this space, helping define how robots move, manipulate, and interact with people in natural environments. It’s an opportunity to solve hard problems across hardware and software with a team focused on making robotics accessible and joyful to build. If you care about making robotics real for everyone and building systems that are as delightful as they are capable, we’re interested in hearing from you. - Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures - 5+ years of quality engineering experience in a hardware product company (consumer electronics, robotics, medical devices, or similar) - Hands-on experience with quality systems in a contract manufacturing environment - Proficiency with inspection tools, metrology, and functional test methods for electromechanical assemblies - Experience authoring work instructions, ATPs, and inspection criteria for production - Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent - Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production - Experience with the project management of technical projects - Experience with robotics, mechatronics, or complex electromechanical systems - Background in early-stage or startup hardware environments where quality systems were built from scratch - Exposure to battery/energy storage compliance (UN38.3, UL2054) - Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-J-STD-001) - Experience with PLM/QMS tools (Arena, ETQ, Greenlight Guru, or similar) Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
