Job description

About Collate Collate is an AI document generation platform for life sciences. We automate paperwork with AI, helping our customers get life-saving innovations to patients years faster. Collate is an end-to-end solution, powering every step of drug, diagnostic, and medical device development—from concept to market. Our CEO Surbhi Sarna is a former General Partner at Y Combinator. Surbhi founded nVision Medical, which developed a new method to detect ovarian cancer and was acquired by Boston Scientific. Our CTO Nate Smith is a former Visiting Partner at Y Combinator and founder of Lever. Our AI researchers, engineers, and designers have worked at Google, Nvidia, Meta, Netflix, Amazon, AirBnB, Hippocratic AI, and Grail, and 40% of our team are former founders. We’re an elite team, with $125M in funding from top investors (Redpoint, First Round Capital, CRV, Conviction, Y Combinator) and leaders in healthcare and AI. This is a rare chance to join an early-stage company with world-changing potential, experienced founders, and resources to execute at scale. About the Role We’re looking for a Frontend Software Engineer to define how people experience Collate. The work you do will translate cutting-edge AI into tools that feel simple, reliable, and human — even in the complex world of healthcare. From the very beginning, your fingerprints will be on the product experiences that doctors, patients, and researchers depend on. Collate is a very Frontend heavy enterprise workflow application that is AI native (think Cursor). Customers need to trust the data we present to them and that means providing a high quality, clear and reliable interface to that data. You’ll be designing the layer where life-changing technology meets real people, in moments that matter to real patient outcomes. Modern Tech Stack Collate uses modern TypeScript, React, and Tailwind CSS for frontend development. We use Next.js for progressive application rendering on the server and client. AI & ML code is written in Python, and Go is used for scalable web backend services. What You’ll Do Build responsive, performant web applications that make complex AI-driven healthcare data simple, accessible and usable. Collaborate closely with design, product, and backend engineers to bring ideas from concept to production. Own your own testing, own releasing software to production and monitor its life. Create reusable components and frontend infrastructure that scales with the team and product. New challenges arrive daily, always think ahead of the current designs. Obsess over details of interaction (create delight), accessibility (all people need access!), and performance (if it’s slow, it’s a no-go) to deliver seamless user experiences. Shape the look, feel, and usability of Collate’s products at a formative stage in the company’s journey. (high quality products need interfaces that are equally high quality to shine) Partner with backend and ML teams to integrate APIs and models into smooth and information rich interfaces for customers. What We’re Looking For Strong experience building modern web applications with React, TypeScript, or similar frameworks. ( Next.js and Tailwind experience is a plus!) A deep care for design, usability, and accessibility — you see frontend engineering as product design. The ability to translate complex, technical concepts into simple, intuitive user experiences. Comfort working across the stack when needed, with a passion for owning the frontend experience. A track record of shipping high-quality features quickly while maintaining technical rigor in complex systems. Motivation to work in an early-stage startup where your contributions directly shape both product and culture. Why Join Collate? Impact: Build systems and experiences that touch real patients and providers, improving healthcare outcomes. Ownership: Shape both our product experience and our engineering culture from the start. Learning: Collaborate with a uniquely interdisciplinary team—AI researchers, healthcare leaders, and experienced startup builders. Upside: Join a company early enough to have meaningful equity and career-defining impact. The base salary range for this role is depending on experience and level (Tier 1, San Francisco) SWE: $158-200K; Senior SWE: $188-250K; Staff SWE: $228-296K; Principal $275-325K
