Employment Type Contract or full-time equivalent; hybrid / cross-shore coordination expected
Primary Stack Azure DevOps, Git, Terraform/OpenTofu, Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt Cloud, Azure services
Role Focus Build reusable platform capabilities that make infrastructure, deployments, monitoring, and
standards repeatable through code, including building an Observability framework
Best Fit Candidate Hands-on engineer with strong CI/CD, DevOps, automation, and cloud platform reliability
background; data platform experience is valuable but not the core identity
Role Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Cloud Platform Engineer to help the Data Platform & Operations team
mature from manual platform administration into engineered, reusable platform services. This person will
design, build, and operate the foundational capabilities that allow modern data platform work to be deployed safely
and consistently through code. The role is centered on Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevOps practices,
observability, automation, and platform reliability across the modern data stack with an emphasis on someone
comfortable providing technical guidance and mentorship to others.
This is not primarily a traditional report-building, analytics engineering, data modeling, or platform
administration role. The successful candidate should be comfortable writing production-quality automation,
building deployment pipelines, establishing engineering standards, and creating the guardrails that let platform
admins, data engineers, and delivery teams move faster without increasing operational risk.
Primary Outcomes
Reusable IaC foundation: Build and maintain modular Terraform/OpenTofu patterns for repeatable
provisioning across the modern data stack.
Reliable CI/CD execution: Create, improve, and operate deployment pipelines that validate, test, and safely
promote infrastructure and platform changes.
Observable platform operations: Implement telemetry, logging, metrics, alerting, cost/health monitoring that
reduce reactive support and improve platform reliability and maturity of operations.
Engineering enablement: Create standards, templates, documentation, and code review practices that allow
other engineers to consume platform capabilities safely.
Clear operating model: Help clarify how platform engineering, data engineering, solution architecture, and
offshore support teams collaborate across IaC, observability, and platform operations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Enablement
Serve as a hands-on engineering anchor for the platform team, helping translate architecture and strategy into
executable work.
Coach and mentor platform team members (Andersen employees) on IaC, CI/CD, code quality, observability,
and DevOps practices while ensuring experienced offshore team members are adhering to standards.
Conduct technical reviews of code, modules, deployment designs, and operational patterns.
Collaborate with solution architects, engineering leads, product owners, and support partners to establish
standards and avoid duplicated or conflicting implementation approaches.
Infrastructure as Code & Automation
Recruiting Draft – Lead Cloud Platform Engineer | IaC, CI/CD, DevOps & Observability
Design and implement reusable Terraform/OpenTofu modules and patterns for Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt Cloud,
Azure resources, and related platform services.
Create standardized provisioning workflows that enforce naming, security, tagging, environment, and approval
patterns through code.
Automate repetitive platform administration activities to reduce manual work, improve consistency, and shorten
request-to-provision cycle time.
Partner with platform admins and data engineers to determine when to use direct provider resources versus
reusable modules.
CI/CD, DevOps & Release Engineering
Build and maintain Azure DevOps / Git-based CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and data platform configuration
changes.
Implement validation gates, pull request reviews, automated tests, promotion workflows, and rollback
considerations for platform changes.
Help define development lifecycle patterns for dev/test/prod promotion, environment isolation, secrets handling,
and deployment approvals.
Improve repository structure, branching practices, code review standards, and deployment documentation.
Observability & Platform Reliability
Design and implement observability capabilities for platform health, pipeline status, data freshness, job timing,
failures, dependencies, and operational telemetry.
Instrument modern data stack components using available tool metadata, APIs, logs, and monitoring platforms.
Create dashboards, alerts, and runbooks that help the team identify issues proactively and route them to the
correct owner.
Evaluate and integrate observability approaches across Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, Azure, and potential
monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Datadog, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar platforms such as
Dynatrace, Splunk or Monte Carlo
Required Qualifications
7+ years of hands-on engineering experience in cloud, modern stack platform, DevOps, infrastructure
automation, software engineering, SRE, or closely related roles with 12+ years of IT experience
Strong experience building CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or
comparable tooling; Azure DevOps preferred.
Hands-on Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform or OpenTofu, including module design, state
management concepts, environments, variables, and secure deployment patterns.
Proficiency with Git-based development workflows, pull requests, code reviews, branching strategies, and
release practices.
Strong scripting or programming capability, preferably Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar automation-
oriented languages.
Experience designing monitoring, alerting, logging, metrics, or observability practices for cloud platforms, data
platforms, APIs, applications, or infrastructure.
Working knowledge of cloud security patterns, secrets management, least-privilege access, service principals,
managed identities, private networking, and environment segmentation.
Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and convert ambiguous platform
needs into actionable engineering work.
4+ years experience providing technical guidance and mentorship to others
Preferred Qualifications
Azure cloud engineering experience, especially Azure DevOps, Azure Functions, Azure Storage, Key Vault,
networking, identity, and deployment automation.
Experience with Snowflake administration or engineering concepts such as warehouses, databases, schemas,
roles, grants, resource monitors, tasks, streams, and cost/performance monitoring.
Recruiting Draft – Lead Cloud Platform Engineer | IaC, CI/CD, DevOps & Observability
Experience with Fivetran connector/destination configuration, dbt Cloud jobs/environments, or other modern
data stack deployment patterns.
Familiarity with data observability concepts such as freshness, completeness, lineage, row counts, job latency,
SLA tracking, and data quality checks. Experience with Splunk, Dynatrace, Monte Carlo or other Observability
platforms preferred
Experience supporting distributed or offshore teams through clear documentation, reusable patterns,
standards, and technical mentoring.
Exposure to DataOps, platform product thinking, self-service
