Job description

About Stack: Stack is developing revolutionary AI and advanced autonomous systems designed to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency of modern operations. Stack's autonomous technology incorporates cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, and cloud technologies, empowering us to create innovative solutions that address the needs and challenges of the dynamic trucking transportation industry. With decades of experience creating and deploying real world systems for demanding environments, the Stack team is dedicated to developing an autonomous solution ecosystem tailored to the trucking industry's unique demands. If you are an Internal Candidate, please apply via our Internal Job Board . About the Role: Join a high-caliber team of experienced software engineers responsible for delivering some of Stack AV's most foundational technology. The team owns Clockwork, Stack's custom-built, high-performance robotics middleware powering production-grade autonomy applications — as well as StackOS, the operating system that underpins the entire vehicle software stack, and the onboard portion of Deploy Manager, which governs how software is delivered and updated on the vehicle itself. Together, these systems form the critical infrastructure backbone of Stack's safety-critical self-driving platform, operating seamlessly across the vehicle, in simulation, in the cloud, and in HIL testing environments. In this role, you will design, implement, test, and deploy new features and optimizations across this portfolio of systems to extend their capabilities, usability, performance, and reliability. Responsibilities: Design and implementation of high-throughput, low-latency logging frameworks capable of handling massively parallel data streams - telemetry, event and console logs. Design, development, and implementation of features, interfaces, and optimizations for Clockwork in collaboration with Autonomy, Cloud, and Safety teams. Continually identify opportunities for improving the performance, reliability, and usability of Clockwork, evaluating tradeoffs amongst multiple options in a resource-constrained environment. Contribute to the prototyping, development, and maintenance of new and existing sensor interfaces that drive the Perception system of the AV. Ensure delivery of high quality software through the principled and consistent use of best practices including robust automated testing, manual and automated code review. Qualifications: Systems Programming: Proficiency of C++, with deep understanding of multi-threading, concurrency models, lock-free data structures, and memory management. Knowledge of software engineering life cycle and algorithm design principles. Experience developing high performance software systems, deployed in resource constrained environments, preferably for safety critical applications. Strong understanding of the POSIX programming environment, Linux, and concurrent programming. A passion for writing robust, intuitive, and pragmatic production code. Strong understanding of Networking fundamentals. Comfortable working with & debugging embedded systems. Experience working with common tooling such as Bazel, Boost, etc. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. Experience with performance evaluation and optimization is highly desired. Domain experience working in autonomous driving, robotics or related industry is highly desired. #LI-TT1 We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. Please Note: Pursuant to its business activities and use of technology, Stack AV complies with all applicable U.S. national security laws, regulations, and administrative requirements, which can restrict Stack AV’s ability to employ certain persons in certain positions pursuant to a range of national security-related requirements. As such, this position may be contingent upon Stack AV verifying a candidate’s residence, U.S. person status, and/or citizenship status. This position may also involve working with software and technologies subject to U.S. export control regulations. Under these regulations, it may be necessary for Stack AV to obtain a U.S. government export license prior to releasing its technologies to certain persons. If Stack AV determines that a candidate’s residence, U.S. person status, and/or citizenship status will require a license, prohibit the candidate from working in this position, or otherwise be subject to national security-related restrictions, Stack AV expressly reserves the right to either consider the candidate for a different position that is not subject to such restrictions, on whatever terms and conditions Stack AV shall establish in its sole discretion, or, in the alternative, decline to move forward with the candidate’s application.
