Job description

Fauna Robotics is building capable, safe, and delightful robots for everyday life. We are hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer to build cloud services that keep the fleet humming. In this role, you will build the cloud foundation and applications that connect robots to customer experiences and internal operations as we scale. The ideal candidate has built distributed systems that connect physical devices to cloud services end to end. They are comfortable building and operating the services they own from prototyping through launch and beyond. They make sound architectural tradeoffs across privacy, security, reliability, delivery speed, and cost when requirements are still evolving. They work effectively across robotics, product, and operations teams while remaining hands-on in design and implementation. Key job responsibilities - Build and own the cloud services that connect a growing fleet of robots to customer experiences and internal operations - Build operational telemetry ingestion pipelines that process high-frequency robot signals - Select technologies where the stack is undefined, document the decisions, and set patterns for a growing team - Join the on-call rotation for the services you own and drive incident response - Work with science, engineering, and product teams to define requirements and operationalize new workflows About the team Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe, and genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Our goal is simple: make robots people actually want to live and interact with in everyday human spaces. We believe that future won't arrive until building for robotics becomes far more accessible. Today, too much effort is spent reinventing the fundamentals. We're changing that by developing tightly integrated hardware and software systems that make it faster, safer, and more intuitive to create real-world robotic products. Our work spans the full stack: mechanical design, control systems, dynamic modeling, and intelligent software. The focus is not just functionality, but experience. We're building robots that feel responsive, expressive, and genuinely useful. At Fauna, you'll work at the frontier of this space, helping define how robots move, manipulate, and interact with people in natural environments. It's an opportunity to solve hard problems across hardware and software with a team focused on making robotics accessible and joyful to build. If you care about making robotics real for everyone and building systems that are as delightful as they are capable, we're interested in hearing from you. - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience - 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent - Experience working in a cloud based development and production environment such as AWS - Experience owning a service end to end: design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and incident response - Experience building backends for physical devices, where clients drop off the network and return with stale state. - Experience with device or fleet connectivity at scale: MQTT, device identity and certificate management, offline-tolerant sync, or an IoT platform (AWS IoT Core, Greengrass, or equivalent). - Experience with real-time telemetry ingestion and streaming (Kafka, Kinesis, or time-series stores). - Experience with over-the-air update delivery and staged fleet rollouts. - Experience securing connected devices: secure provisioning, secrets management, and data privacy. - Experience with infrastructure as code and operational tooling (Terraform, CDK, Kubernetes). - Experience in robotics, automotive, connected home, or another domain where software runs on hardware in the field.
