Job description
Overview
The future of Windows is no longer tied to a single device. It lives in the cloud. Join the Windows in the Cloud engineering team and help redefine how people access, experience, and interact with Windows through secure, intelligent, cloud-powered experiences.
We build beautiful client applications and transformative cloud experiences that enable people to access Windows remotely across devices and form factors. Our mission is to deliver the best expression of Windows from any client operating system, helping customers stay productive wherever work happens.
Windows App is the unified client for Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Microsoft Dev Box, Remote Desktop Services, and remote PCs. Together with experiences such as Windows 365 Boot, Windows 365 Switch, and Windows 365 Link, it is opening an exciting new chapter for Windows in the cloud.
As Microsoft brings Windows into the cloud and AI into everything, Windows App is becoming an important surface where people and AI agents connect to Cloud PCs. With Windows 365 for Agents, Cloud PCs can provide secure, IT-managed desktop and browser environments where agents perform meaningful work. This role sits at the center of that shift.
Our culture feels more like a startup than a traditional engineering organization. We move fast, stay close to customers, challenge assumptions, and do what is necessary to help customers succeed. We take the work seriously while having fun building meaningful products together.
This team offers outstanding opportunities to deepen your technical expertise, expand your leadership influence, and shape products that define the future of personal computing.
Whether you join at the Senior or Principal level, you can:
• Influence products used by customers globally.
• Drive technical strategy across organizations.
• Collaborate with innovative engineering teams across Microsoft.
• Help define the next era of Windows, Cloud PCs, and AI-powered computing.
If you are excited to build the future of Windows, cloud experiences, and AI-enabled productivity, we would love to talk with you.
Responsibilities
• Design and build high-quality client and platform software that powers Windows cloud experiences.
• Develop experiences across Windows, cross-platform clients, cloud-connected services, and emerging AI-driven workflows.
• Drive architecture and technical strategy for complex systems and customer-facing applications.
• Partner with product, design, research, and platform teams to create intuitive, reliable, and delightful customer experiences.
• Solve challenging problems in performance, scalability, reliability, security, accessibility, and user experience.
• Influence engineering practices, technical direction, and product innovation across teams.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture.
• At the Principal level, lead broad technical initiatives and shape the next generation of Windows cloud experiences.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or C#
• OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
• Solid software engineering experience designing and building commercial-quality products.
• Demonstrated technical experience developing in C, C++, or C#. Proficiency in at least one of these languages
• Experience with software design, coding, debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience developing complex desktop applications, systems software, platform technologies, cloud-connected applications, or large-scale services.
• Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including performance optimization, maintainability, reliability, and secure system design.
• Passion for building high-quality products and customer experiences.
• Experience with Windows platform development or cross-platform client applications.
• Experience with cloud-connected applications and services, distributed systems, virtualization, remote desktop technologies, or cloud computing platforms.
• Experience delivering consumer or enterprise applications at scale.
• Experience applying AI technologies to customer experiences, productivity scenarios, or platform capabilities.
• Technical leadership experience driving architecture, large projects, or cross-organization impact.
