Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Expert to provide enterprise-grade PostgreSQL administration, support, performance tuning, and database reliability services. The individual will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and scalability of mission-critical PostgreSQL environments while supporting production, non-production, and disaster recovery systems.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Support
• Administer and maintain PostgreSQL databases across Production, UAT, QA, and Development environments.
• Monitor database health, performance, capacity, and availability.
• Perform proactive issue identification and resolution.
• Manage database upgrades, patching, and version migrations.
• Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and archival strategies.
Performance Optimization
• Analyze SQL queries and execution plans.
• Perform database performance tuning and optimization.
• Optimize indexing strategies, partitioning, and database design.
• Identify and resolve database bottlenecks.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
• Design and support PostgreSQL HA solutions.
• Configure and maintain replication environments.
• Support failover and disaster recovery testing.
• Ensure RPO/RTO objectives are met.
Security & Compliance
• Configure database security controls and access management.
• Implement role-based access controls.
• Support audit, compliance, and vulnerability remediation activities.
• Manage encryption and data protection requirements.
Incident & Problem Management
• Provide L2/L3 production support.
• Troubleshoot critical database incidents.
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures.
• Participate in on-call support and major incident management.
Automation & DevOps
• Develop automation scripts for monitoring, deployment, backup, and maintenance activities.
• Support Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD initiatives where applicable.
• Integrate PostgreSQL monitoring with enterprise observability platforms.
Required Skills
• 10+ years of database administration experience.
• 6+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience.
• HA/DR, performance tuning, and PostgreSQL migration expertise
• Strong knowledge of:
• PostgreSQL Architecture
• WAL, Replication & Streaming Replication
• Backup & Recovery
• Performance Tuning
• Partitioning & Indexing
• PostgreSQL Security
• Query Optimization
• Experience with:
• pgAdmin
• pgBackRest / Barman
• Patroni / RepMgr
• Linux Administration
• Shell/Python Scripting
• Monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, etc.)
Preferred Skills
• PostgreSQL on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• PostgreSQL migration from Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, or other RDBMS platforms.
• Experience supporting large-scale banking or financial services environments.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes/OpenShift-hosted PostgreSQL deployments.
• Exposure to enterprise data governance and regulatory compliance requirements.

• 10-15+ years overall IT experience
• 6+ years dedicated PostgreSQL experience
