CHIEF OF STAFF
Location: Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Remote
MISSION
LENS’s mission is to end traffic accidents. LENS prevents accidents and saves lives by detecting hazards to prevent accidents before they happen.
PLATFORM & PRODUCT
LENS Detect scans CCTV feeds on highways to identify hazards, in real-time, before they become accidents. Public Safety agencies, alongside Departments of Transportation, receive alerts on the LENS Detect dashboard about Disabled Vehicles, Stalled Big Rigs, and Pedestrians on Freeway. A dispatcher reviews and validates the detection, and then dispatches an officer to the scene to assist the person in need — resulting in either preventing an accident or saving a life.
CBS LA recently did a three minute TV feature that succinctly captures what LENS is doing with Public Safety Agencies in one of the largest traffic capitals in the world:

Role & Responsibilities
As the Chief of Staff, you seek transformational change. You do not accept the status quo that accidents are an accepted inevitability, or that they just happen. Instead, you believe when the root cause of an accident can be known in advance, the accident can and should be prevented. You work with fellow Preventers that share this core belief, using LENS to prevent accidents and save lives.
This role blends public-sector fluency, operational leadership, and tech-forward strategic thinking. Your responsibilities are:
- Government Engagement and Policy Strategy: Prepare, brief, and accompany the CEO to meetings with Congress, federal agencies, and government leaders, ensuring the company’s mission, technology, and priorities are presented with clarity, trust, and precision. Manage talking points, follow up actions, and rapid response adjustments as opportunities emerge.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain trusted relationships with congressional staff, agency officials, advocacy, groups, and industry partners. Track legislative developments and anticipate shifts that will impact our mission acceleration.
- Executive Advisory: Serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO, synthesizing information, identifying risks, and ensuring decisions are grounded in policy and operations. Maintain momentum through fast-moving, ambiguous, or sensitive situations.
- Meeting Preparation and Briefings: Build briefing materials, meeting summaries, stakeholder maps, and scenario plans for all government-facing engagements. Ensure the CEO is prepared for every room and every pivot.
- Cross-functional Coordination: Translate government priorities into internal action plans the company can execute against. Maintain shared rhythm across teams so momentum is never lost between external engagements and internal execution.
MINDSET, PRINCIPLES, AND SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Your mindset is grounded in:
- The mission. Every accident prevented and every life saved deserves to be celebrated. You identify, understand, and share these moments as the reason more and more people are lending their voice and energy to the mission.
- High-judgement decision making: You make sound calls quickly in ambiguous, sensitive, or fast-moving situations, and you know when to pause for a second look before we commit. You keep pace with a fast-moving CEO while shifting between high level engagements in a single day.
- Policy Fluency: You have a strong understanding of processes across different areas of government, including legislative cycles, and how policy connects with emerging technology.
- Executive Presence: You are a confident communicator who can represent the CEO and the organization with calm, clarity and composure.
- Relationship intelligence: You are skilled at listening deeply, understanding relationships, and building long-term relationships.
Principles you share with us are:
- We focus to supercharge our creative impact. You constantly suggest what focus areas will give lead to the CEO’s time and energy advancing the mission the fastest.
- Begin with the end in mind. Before scheduling a meeting, drafting a brief, or preparing the CEO for an engagement, you proactively try to contribute to the outcome.
- Invest the most time where it makes the most progress. You evaluate every initiative by moments that create the most mission impact.
- You operate with championship excellence. You help build shared rhythm, constant communication, and collaboration across the CEO’s office. You elevate other team member’s intuition, anticipate each other's moves, and execute as a unified team committed to preventing accidents and saving lives.
The Skills & Experience you have are:
- Experience in government, public policy, or government relations.
- Experience working with executives - prior work supporting leaders, elected & appointed officials, and C-suite executives.
- Ability to be travel ready and willingness to travel up to 90% of the time with the CEO.
- Exceptional writing, briefing, and communication ability.
- Ability to relentlessly prioritize and manage sensitive situations with speed, clarity, and sound judgment.
- Being a senior management member, working alongside other senior operators to advance a meaningful, mission-driven cause.
The time to accept traffic accidents is ending, and the time to prevent them has begun. This belief is becoming more of an inevitable reality every day. The number of agencies LENS serves keeps growing - and the world needs to know why. If you want to shape the narrative of a company preventing accidents and saving lives, and use the power of communication to accelerate that mission, this role is for you.
