Job description

ABOUT JOYFUL HEALTH Building the financial operating system for healthcare, and bringing the joy back to healthcare by fixing the financial chaos behind it. The healthcare payment system is a complex and inefficient maze - healthcare practices leave $125 billion in revenue uncollected each year, lost in the chaos of fragmented financial data, manual workflows, and opaque payer systems. This financial uncertainty leaves practices struggling to stay afloat, while valuable revenue slips through the cracks. Joyful Health is building the AI-powered financial operating system for healthcare practices. Our mission is to bring the joy back to running a private practice by simplifying financial operations so providers can focus on patient care. We spent 10 months working as fractional CFOs for a dozen practices, doing this work side by side with providers as we developed our product. We just announced our $22M Series A led by CRV and world-class investors including the founders of MongoDB & KAYAK. 🚀 We have an enormous opportunity in front of us. The broken healthcare payment ecosystem impacts practices of all sizes, and the opportunity to make a real difference is massive. If you’re passionate about empowering medical practices and excited to tackle one of the most important (& challenging!) problems in healthcare, we’d love to meet you. THE ROLE Role Overview We're looking for a Business Development Representative (BDR) to own our outbound prospecting motion at Joyful Health. As our Founding BDR, you'll be the tip of the spear for pipeline creation, reaching outpatient healthcare practices across the country and setting qualified meetings for our sales team. This is a high-impact role for someone early in their sales career who is hungry, coachable, and genuinely excited about the healthcare space. You'll develop deep expertise in RCM and healthcare finance while helping build the outbound playbook that fuels our next phase of growth. This role is full-time. We are looking for someone NYC-based who can be in the office 3 days per week. WHAT YOU'LL DO… - Own outbound prospecting. - Use AI tools (Claude, etc.) to research accounts faster, personalize at scale, and multiply your output. This isn't a "nice to have," it's how we expect you to work. - Identify, research, and reach outpatient healthcare practices through cold calls, email sequences, and LinkedIn outreach. - Build and work cadences that reflect Joyful's ICP and messaging strategy. - Maintain high activity volume without sacrificing personalization. - Work our bottom-up channels (events, community, partnerships) to qualify inbound interest and set discovery calls. - Distinguish prospects who are "open to a conversation" from those with real, urgent pain. - Set and hand off meetings with qualified stakeholders - Book and transition high-quality discovery calls to an Account Executive with clear context and handoff notes. - Take ownership of show rate and meeting quality, not just volume. - Maintain CRM hygiene - keep HubSpot updated and accurate so the team has real visibility into pipeline and activity. - Log every touchpoint and outcome. Use data to self-correct. - Share market intelligence. - Surface patterns from prospect conversations that help refine ICP, messaging, and positioning. - Build healthcare expertise - Learn the RCM and billing landscape so you can speak credibly with practice administrators, revenue cycle managers, and CFOs. - Understand the economics of how practices get paid and where revenue slips through the cracks. WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF… You're passionate about Joyful's mission - You want to solve real problems for healthcare providers and are motivated by fixing the broken systems in healthcare. You have 1-2+ years of sales or BDR/SDR experience in a high growth startup environment - Track record of consistent outbound activity: cold calls, email sequences, and multi-touch cadences. - Experience working with a CRM and advanced tech stack (HubSpot preferred). You log things because it's useful, not because it's required. - Bonus: any exposure to healthcare, RCM, medical billing, or health-tech sales. You're a relentless, intelligent outbounder - You research accounts before reaching out. Generic blasts aren't your style. - You write personalized messaging that reflects the buyer's world, not a template. - You're comfortable making a high volume of cold calls without letting quality slip. - You understand activity-to-meeting math and hold yourself accountable to it. You're coachable and hungry to grow - You take feedback and implement it in the next call, not next week. - You're genuinely curious about the healthcare problem space and want to develop expertise. - You're thinking about a long-term sales career and want to grow into a closing role. You thrive in early-stage environments - You're comfortable building the playbook and infrastructure while running it. - You don't need a structured BDR program to hit your numbers. - Scrappy execution mindset: you figure things out and own the outcome. OTE: $100,000–$120,000 per year OUR VALUE PROP TO YOU 🚀 Meaningful Impact. You'll be tackling one of the most complex challenges in healthcare, helping practices thrive in a chaotic financial landscape. Your pipeline directly contributes to the revenue practices have earned but can't collect. 🔑 Autonomy & Ownership. As an early team member, you'll have significant autonomy and the chance to shape our outbound motion from the ground up. We value initiative and are invested in helping you grow. 📈 Growth & Learning. You'll be on a direct path to a closing role. We offer professional development stipends and work alongside you to build the skills that get you there. 💰 Competitive Compensation. Competitive base, performance bonus, and equity. We want you to share in Joyful's success. ❤️ Be Your Best Self. Comprehensive healthcare benefits, unlimited PTO (minimum 10 days), and flexibility to take care of yourself. Regular team off-sites so we enjoy the journey as we tackle big problems.
