Job Description Summary
At Castlight, we are looking for a Staff Full Stack Engineer who brings deep proficiency across both frontend and backend technology. As a high-agency operator who seamlessly bridges Angular micro-frontends with Java Spring and Python microservices on GCP, you will partner with product leadership to build complete 0-to-1 experiences and drive end-to-end execution for millions of users. If you are a true jack-of-all-trades who naturally operates as the ultimate escape hatch when execution speed matters most, we want to talk to you.
How will you make an impact & Requirements
Who You Are:
A True Full-Stack Engineer: Jack-of-all-trades and master of them too. You operate comfortably across the entire technology stack—from deep backend architecture in Java Spring and Python to fluid micro-frontends in Angular, seamlessly switching context where others see boundaries.
Unapologetically High-Agency: You don t wait for rigid handoffs or endless alignment meetings. If a feature needs a new API endpoint, a microservices update on GCP, and an intuitive UI component, you take full ownership and ship it end-to-end.
Obsessed with End-to-End Craft: You care just as much about the micro-interactions and responsiveness of a web application as you do about the throughput, resilience, and latency of the microservices powering it.
The Ultimate Escape Hatch: When time is critical and something needs to be built or shipped right now , you are the engineer we call. You cut through red tape, figure out a path forward, and deliver under pressure without missing a beat.
Mission-Driven & Relentless: You embrace nimble, fast-moving environments. You seek to eliminate unnecessary friction, navigate complex systems effortlessly, and take pride in building software that directly impacts millions of people.
Who We Are:
At Castlight, we’re making it as simple as humanly possible for people to navigate the complicated, often frustrating, world of healthcare. We partner with America’s largest employers and health plans, transforming employee benefits into a deeply personalized and guided journey for millions of users. What we build genuinely helps people live happier and healthier lives.
What You ll Do:
Reporting into Engineering Leadership, you will serve as a premier Staff Individual Contributor driving end-to-end technical execution across our consumer health products. You will be equipped with modern tools, given clear ownership, and empowered to build complete user experiences from the database layer to the frontend UI.
In this role, you will:
Build End-to-End Solutions: Architect, write, and deploy complete product slices—building scalable Java Spring / Python backend services on GCP and crafting white-labeled micro-frontends in Angular.
Drive Rapid POCs & Prototyping: Partner directly with Product Managers to take raw 0-to-1 ideas and rapidly transform them into polished, production-ready experiences.
Elevate Engineering Standards: Raise the bar for code quality, deployment speed, and system architecture across both frontend and backend domains.
Optimize Full-Stack Performance: Bridge the gap between server response times and client-side rendering to create ultra-fast, seamless consumer experiences for millions of users.
Skills & Qualifications:
Technical Experience: 8 years of software engineering experience spanning both frontend and backend software development at scale.
Backend Mastery: Strong expertise in Java (Spring / Spring Boot) and/or Python, with a track record of building resilient, high-throughput RESTful microservices on GCP.
Frontend Mastery: Deep expertise in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks (Angular preferred, but React/Vue expertise welcomed) with experience building scalable micro-frontends or design systems.
Full-Stack Ownership: Proven capability to take complete ownership of complex features, delivering both backend endpoints and UI components end-to-end.
Systems & Architecture: Comfortable working with cloud infrastructure (GCP), CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments, and micro-frontend architectures.
Communication: Exceptional ability to articulate end-to-end architectural decisions, trade-offs, and product requirements across both technical and non-technical teams.
What You ll Get:
Competitive Compensation: A highly competitive salary and benefits package.
Unmatched Autonomy: Full freedom to operate across the entire stack with minimal bureaucracy and zero context-switching friction.
High-Visibility Impact: Direct ownership over key consumer features that scale to millions of healthcare users.
Work That Matters: Build technology where seamless user experience and backend efficiency directly enable people to access the healthcare they need.
Compensation Range:
$131,243.00 to
$196,865.00
The anticipated base salary range represents the Company s good-faith estimate of the compensation it reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location, internal equity, and business needs.
