The round was led by Vineeta Agarwala, MD, PhD, of Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), and is the largest investment to date from a16z's bio + health team. Read the announcement. prnewswire.com Healthcare needs a store. People should be able to see prices, understand their options, and get advice from clinicians as easily as they shop for anything else. That's what we're building, and this Series B will help us expand the store and reach more customers across the United States. To learn more, read CEO TJ Parker's post on LinkedIn linkedin.com and the a16z team's post on Substack a16z.news. If this sounds interesting, we're hiring. Help us build the store. About General Medicine General Medicine is building a healthcare store that makes it radically simpler — and more transparent — for people to access care. We provide upfront cash and insurance prices for visits, prescriptions, labs, imaging, and more. Behind that simplicity is complex infrastructure: payer integrations, pricing logic, eligibility systems, reconciliation workflows, and financial rails. We’re building the systems that make transparent healthcare possible. What we're looking for We're looking for a frontend engineer to help us build a seamless and beautiful consumer healthcare product on the web. You'll own major surfaces of our Next.js application — from search and scheduling to provider profiles and checkout — and obsess over every detail of the patient experience. Our ideal candidate has deep expertise in React and TypeScript, a strong eye for UI polish, and experience building fast, accessible, production-grade web apps. You should be comfortable working closely with design to nail interactions and micro-details, but also confident making pragmatic frontend architecture decisions — component patterns, state management, data fetching strategies, performance optimization, and testing. You should also be willing to work across the stack when needed; our frontend talks to a Rails backend, and we value engineers who can trace a bug or build a feature end-to-end. Beyond frontend expertise, we're looking for someone who cares deeply about technical excellence but is also comfortable moving quickly. We are constantly navigating tradeoffs between engineering velocity and quality. Our ideal candidate is hungry, high-agency, and aspires to be a generalist. Our engineers frequently write product requirements documents, write SQL to understand how features are performing, and own QA — no task is beneath us or outside of the scope of the role if it helps us to deliver a great product. We're looking for someone who can operate in an environment of significant ambiguity, and who is comfortable working closely with design, operations, and clinical stakeholders. We don't expect you to have a healthcare background (though it's great if you do!). However, you should be excited by the prospect of digging into the messy complexities of the American healthcare system (integrating with EHRs, revenue cycle management, etc). Qualifications - 4+ years of experience building production web applications with React - Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern React patterns (server components, hooks, data fetching) - Experience with Next.js or a similar framework (routing, SSR/SSG, API routes, caching) - A strong eye for UI quality — you notice when padding is off by 4px and it bothers you - Experience with frontend performance optimization, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility - Comfort working with RESTful APIs and understanding backend data models - Familiarity with modern backend frameworks is a plus — we use Ruby on Rails and Postgres Please note that this role is based in our SF office (Spear St). We are hybrid 3x a week. Compensation: Base is between 150-225k annually + equity options. Why join us We're an experienced team that has built a company in this space before, our product has clear product-market fit, and we've raised money from top investors. We have an ambitious and distinctive vision for what can be built in consumer healthcare. We believe LLMs and price transparency legislation have opened up several massive opportunities. If you're an ambitious and entrepreneurial frontend engineer and this resonates, please apply.
