Job description

Manager of Software Development Location: Charlotte, NC Reporting to: Chief Technology Officer (CTO) About Velocitor Solutions Velocitor Solutions is a leader in enterprise fleet management and mobile innovation, celebrating over 25 years of profitably growing technology. We go beyond standard telematics by offering a comprehensive, managed ecosystem—managing over 200,000 mobile assets for Fortune 500 clients across North America. Our V-Track platform integrates GPS tracking, AI-powered video telematics, and real-time data to drive safety and efficiency. We are in a pivotal phase of growth and looking to expand technology team. Why Join Velocitor Solutions As the Manager of Software Development, you will lead and develop Velocitor’s 30+ person engineering organization, balancing hands-on technical leadership with strategic vision. You’ll lead engineering for a 24x7 platform operating at enterprise scale, unite our onshore, nearshore, and offshore teams into one high-performing organization, make AI-assisted engineering the default way we work, and report directly to the CTO, collaborating closely with project, product, platform, and quality leadership to shape the company’s technology direction. Role Summary The Manager of Software Development is the functional leader for Velocitor’s software engineering team, responsible for the people, skills, and engineering standards behind a high-volume, 24x7 telematics platform: the V-Track web platform, APIs, mobile applications (iOS/Android), and client integrations that process real-time GPS and telemetry data from more than 200,000 assets for Fortune 500 clients. You will manage 30+ FTEs, a mix of employees and consultants across onshore, nearshore, and offshore locations, building in .NET, React, KMM, and .NET MAUI. Working alongside our Project Manager and Product Owners, who own sprint and release execution, you will ensure every project has the right engineers aligned and focused on delivery. You will be a player-coach—capable of coaching an engineer through a design review in the morning and working through resource plans with project and product leadership in the afternoon. Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Talent Development • Serve as functional manager for 30+ engineers across mobile, web, back-end, and full-stack development, owning hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development. • Set clear expectations, run regular 1:1s and performance reviews, and address underperformance directly and early. • Build a culture of ownership where engineers own their code from design through production support. Resource Management & Delivery Partnership • Partner with the Project Manager and Product Owners to ensure each project has the right engineers, skills, and capacity aligned and focused on delivery. • Own resource planning and allocation across projects, anticipating demand and resolving conflicts before they become delays. • Raise capacity and skill risks early, and propose options such as reallocation, hiring, or consultant ramp-up. • Maintain visibility into allocation, utilization, and skills coverage, and report team health metrics to the CTO. AI-Assisted Engineering • Make AI-assisted development the team’s default, including agentic coding tools, AI-assisted pull request review, and AI-generated tests and documentation. • Measure the impact of AI tooling on productivity and quality, and scale what works. • Define guardrails for AI-generated code covering ownership, security review, and data handling. Engineering Standards & Operational Partnership • Own engineering standards: coding practices, pull request review, unit test coverage, and definition of done. • Ensure the team designs and builds for scale, with performance, concurrency, and resilience built in for high-volume, real-time data ingestion and 24x7 availability. • Partner with Quality Engineering and DevOps to embed automated quality gates in the CI/CD pipeline. • Contribute to architectural direction with the CTO and Platform Engineering, including the move toward cloud-native services on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). • Promote standard integration patterns so new client and vendor integrations become configuration, not custom code. • Partner with SRE, DevOps, DBAs, and the Managed Services team on incident response and "Root Cause Analysis" (RCA) loops back into engineering, and support SOC 2 Type II controls across the SDLC. Global Delivery Model • Drive synergies across onshore, nearshore, and offshore teams, operating them as one engineering organization rather than separate vendors or queues. • Establish shared standards, tooling, onboarding, and ways of working for employees and consultants in every location. • Design collaboration models that turn time-zone coverage into an advantage, including structured handoffs, overlap hours, and cross-location pairing. • Identify skill gaps and duplication across locations, and rebalance work, skills, and headcount to maximize capability and cost efficiency. Required Qualifications • 8+ years in software development with at least 3+ years in a leadership or management role, including leading 20+ engineers through team or technical leads. • Hands-on experience with .NET/C# and at least one of React (web), Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM), or .NET MAUI (mobile). • Experience leading engineering teams on high-volume, high-availability (24x7) platforms with large data volumes, high transaction throughput, and real-time processing, with a strong grasp of performance, scalability, and resilience design. • Proven experience as a functional manager in a matrixed SaaS environment, partnering with project managers and product owners on resource planning and delivery. • Track record of integrating onshore, nearshore, and offshore teams of employees and consultants into one organization, with measurable gains in collaboration, quality, or efficiency. • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum delivery and modern engineering practices, including CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or similar) and branching strategies. • Experience with REST APIs and system-to-system integrations with external customers or vendors. • Practical, current use of AI coding tools in your own and your team’s workflow, with a clear view of where they need guardrails. • Strong relational database skills (SQL Server preferred), including schema design, query performance at high data volumes, and safe migration practices. • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills—ability to translate technical complexity into business impact for executive and non-technical audiences • Thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments with rapidly changing priorities and ambiguity • Strong ownership mentality: you take accountability for outcomes, drive issues to resolution, and lead by example Preferred Skills • Experience in B2B SaaS, telematics, fleet management, IoT, or other real-time, data-intensive platforms serving enterprise customers • Experience managing consultant and vendor relationships, including offshore or nearshore delivery centers. • Experience in a managed services or highly customized B2B environment, balancing client-specific work against a shared product. • Experience with Azure PaaS services and containerized workloads on Kubernetes (AKS). • Experience with event streaming, message queuing, and caching for high-throughput workloads (for example, Azure Event Hubs, Service Bus, Kafka, or Redis). • Experience with route planning, geospatial data, or mapping APIs. • Experience operating under SOC 2 or a similar control framework. • Experience modernizing legacy applications toward services without stopping feature delivery. Compensation & Benefits • Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance. • Paid time off and holidays. • Retirement savings plan options. • Opportunities for career advancement and professional growth. This job description is intended to provide a general overview of the position and may be subject to change based on the evolving needs of the company. Velocitor Solutions is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
