Job description
ABOUT US
Our mission is to raise AGI with the richness of human intelligence — curious, witty, imaginative, and full of unexpected brilliance.
Surge was founded by engineers and researchers who dreamed of building the next generation AI. We're building a platform that powers the most powerful models in the world in partnership with companies like Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and Meta.
At Surge, we believe the path to AGI isn't just about scaling compute—it's about embracing the unlimited ceiling of human intelligence and creativity in the data that shapes these systems. Our platform combines elite human expertise with cutting-edge tools for scalable oversight, from building rich RL environments to conducting rigorous evaluations that go beyond benchmarks. We've run a profitable business from day one without raising venture funding.
THE ROLE
As a Business Development Manager at Surge, you'll be a key driver of our growth strategy, identifying and cultivating strategic partnerships with our customers and non-customers alike. You'll work closely with our team to create long-term value through innovative collaborations and new market opportunities.

- Identify and pursue strategic partnership opportunities with enterprise companies in the AI and machine learning sectors
- Develop and execute comprehensive business development strategies aligned with Surge's goals
- Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers in target organizations
- Negotiate complex deals and partnerships that drive mutual value
- Collaborate with internal teams and stay abreast of industry trends to ensure successful implementation of partnerships
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Experience in business development or strategic partnerships in tech/AI, with a proven track record of closing high-value deals
- Strong understanding of the AI/ML landscape, coupled with excellent communication skills to articulate complex value propositions to C-level executives
- Strategic thinker with adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced startup; Bachelor's degree required, MBA or advanced degree a plus
