Job description

FieldAI ’s Irvine team is where embodied AI meets real robots, real sensors, and real field deployments. Based in the heart of Southern California’s robotics ecosystem, we build risk-aware, reliable, field-ready AI systems that solve the hardest problems in robotics and unlock the full potential of embodied intelligence. If you want your work to ship, get tested on hardware, and improve through real deployments, Irvine is the place. We go beyond typical data-driven approaches or pure transformer-only architectures, combining rigorous engineering with learning systems proven in globally deployed solutions that deliver results today and get better every time our robots run in the field. We're looking for a Senior Product Designer to craft the design voice for our product by creating polished customer interactive experience for a new category of technology. You'll bring a strategic design thinking, strong visual identity and aesthetic sensibility to everything you touch — defining the look, feel, and design language that makes our platform unmistakably FieldAI. Beyond the visual, you'll shape how customers operate their robots and unlock the insights and value that matter to their business. This isn't about a single screen or feature — it's about building a cohesive, intuitive experience for how humans work with autonomous robots at scale. What You'll Get To Do Define and own the visual identity and design language across our customer interactive experience — establishing the aesthetic standard that makes every surface of the product feel premium, intentional, and cohesive Create and maintain a comprehensive design system, including design policies and primitives, visual style guide, design tokens, and documented interaction patterns that scale across the platform. Bring an intuitive sense to how users work with robots across a variety of sites, environments, and use cases — translating complex robotic operations into clear, elegant industrial workflows Design data products that communicate value — helping users not just see the rich data our systems generate, but understand what it means and act on it with confidence Own design ops end-to-end: establish governance, versioning, and contribution processes for the design system to ensure consistency as the product and team grow Collaborate closely with product, marketing, and engineering, teams to bring designs from concept to production — ensuring what ships matches the vision Champion the user through research, feedback, and advocacy — whether they're field operators, site managers, or enterprise decision-makers What You Bring 5+ years of experience in systems design with a strong portfolio demonstrating visual craft and shipped digital products (complex platforms, interactive tools, or multi-layered applications preferred) Proven experience building and maintaining design systems from the ground up — including component libraries, style guides, design tokens, and usage documentation An understanding of Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) — whether through academic study, professional experience, or deep personal curiosity, you appreciate the unique challenges of designing for systems where humans and robots collaborate Expertise in Figma as your primary design tool Strong data visualization skills — the ability to make complex information clear, useful, and beautiful Systems thinking — you can craft a single interaction and understand how it fits into a broader platform and design language Excellent written and verbal communication skills — you can articulate design decisions, give and receive feedback gracefully, and collaborate across disciplines What Will Set You Apart Experience designing for robotics, autonomous systems, IoT, or other hardware-software products Background in platform-level UX where information architecture, navigation patterns, and scalability are as important as any individual screen Familiarity with real-time data interfaces, mapping, or geospatial UX Experience designing for multi-site or multi-environment use cases Comfort with prototyping interactions and micro-animations Track record of establishing design culture and evangelizing design system adoption across engineering teams Our salary range is generous and we consider each individual’s background and experience when determining final compensation. Base pay may vary based on role scope, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and the Irvine, California market. Why Join FieldAI in Irvine? In Irvine, you will work where the robots are. Our local team builds and tests systems on real hardware with real sensors, then ships them to operate in unstructured, previously unknown environments around the world. We are solving one of robotics’ hardest challenges: reliable deployment outside the lab. Our Field Foundational Models™ raise the bar for perception, planning, localization, and manipulation, with an emphasis on explainability and safety for real-world use. You will collaborate with a world-class team that thrives on creativity, resilience, and bold thinking. We bring deep experience from organizations such as DeepMind, NASA JPL, Boston Dynamics, NVIDIA, Amazon, Tesla Autopilot, Cruise, Zoox, Toyota Research Institute, and SpaceX, along with a track record of field deployments and strong performance in DARPA challenge segments. Be Part of the Next Robotics Revolution We are looking for builders who want their work to leave the whiteboard and show up on robots. If you enjoy tackling tough, uncharted questions and working across disciplines, you will find your people here. Our teams span AI, software, robotics engineering, product, field deployment, and technical communication, all focused on shipping systems that perform in the real world. Our headquarters is in Irvine, and we partner closely with teams there as well as colleagues across the US and around the world. Join us in Southern California and help define what dependable, field-ready autonomy looks like. We value diverse perspectives and are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace. We evaluate candidates and employees based on merit, qualifications, and performance, and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, national origin, ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, or any other legally protected status.
