Engineering Manager, Web Automation & Open Banking Infrastructure at Zero Hash

Job description

About the Job zerohash is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the team architecting and building our open banking data aggregation platform. This is a high-performing team tackling deeply technical, adversarial problems in browser internals and secure automation. We’re looking for a true technologist with a love of programming and a drive for technical excellence. We believe the best managers are technologists first, with a product mindset, who seek to make a larger impact across the organization. You will lead the team building secure, agent-based automation infrastructure (e.g., Chrome Manifest V3 extensions, iOS WKWebViews), transforming unstructured web data into programmable APIs that bridge traditional finance and digital assets. Responsibilities • Research and design new methods that push the boundaries of secure web automation • Lead a team of engineers building the core automation runtime, guiding architecture for resilient UI interactions, reliable programmatic data entry, and robust session routing. • Partner closely with product and program managers to ensure the open banking roadmap is well understood and the team can plan and execute on expected outcomes. • Work with the team on technical planning to ensure requirements — such as secure network interception, complex multi-step authentication flows (MFA, Passkeys), and session management — are captured in the technical solution. • Partner with other Engineering Managers to drive the broader technical roadmap forward. • Support the engineering team in achieving a high level of technical excellence in browser automation, extension development, and secure data extraction. • Manage processes to help the team do its best work and interface effectively with the rest of zerohash. • Recruit, coach, and develop engineers, specifically those specializing in web automation, browser internals, and distributed systems. • Help engineers establish career development plans within the evolving open banking and web automation space. • Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of zerohash’s engineering management team. • Participate in essential technical, design, and product discussions with leaders across product and operations teams. • Work with a wide range of stakeholders to build a clear vision for your team’s role in the open banking ecosystem. • Oversee the success of your team’s projects, driving resiliency, scalability, and coverage across dynamic DOM structures, varying mobile/desktop portal designs, and application suspension states. • Introduce industry-leading engineering patterns and practices that give the team confidence to operate at scale. • Make consistent development contributions so as to maintain competency with the codebase and system architecture. Requirements • 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, deeply focused on advanced web automation, browser internals, extension development, or complex frontend-to-backend data extraction. • 5+ years of engineering management experience, including managing senior and staff-level engineers. • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or Engineering OR equivalent years of work experience. • Proven track record of managing teams that have delivered complex, production-grade browser automation, extension, or data infrastructure products. • Deep proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript, specifically regarding DOM manipulation, modern web APIs, and strict browser execution environments. • Strong backend experience, ideally with Golang (or Node.js/Python), to guide the design of operational infrastructure. • Strong security fundamentals: deep understanding of secure message passing across trust boundaries (JS bridges, isolated vs. main worlds), secure authentication handshakes, and mitigating DOM-based injection risks. • Experience guiding teams through distributed systems challenges, specifically managing persistent connections and stateful, multi-hop sessions across ephemeral client runtimes. • Comfort with ambiguity; the ability to independently lay out and test clear hypotheses, and to coach a team to do the same without well-defined direction. Preferred • Proven track record of shipping production-grade browser extensions (Chrome MV3) or complex web automation within mobile native environments (iOS WKWebView, Android WebView). • Strong understanding of WebAuthn / Passkey protocols and how to integrate them into automated flows. • Previous engineering leadership experience at a major financial data aggregator or building zero-knowledge/client-side data extraction tools. • Understanding of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, including major protocols, on-chain transaction flows, and common crypto security practices. Benefits • Healthcare Insurance: zerohash covers roughly 100% of employee premiums as well as a portion of spouse/children (U.S. only) • Vision & Dental Insurance (U.S. only) • Chance to earn equity • Maternity & Paternity leave (after 6 months) • WeWork All Access Membership • WFH Yearly Stipend • L&D Yearly Stipend (after 6 months) About zerohash zerohash is the leading crypto and stablecoin infrastructure platform and the operating system for digital money, powering the next generation of financial services. Founded in 2017, zerohash enables banks, brokerages, fintechs, and payment companies to offer crypto trading, stablecoin payments, and tokenized assets without having to build or manage complex blockchain infrastructure on their own. The zerohash platform supports three core pillars: Trade, Transact, and Tokenize. Through a single integration, customers can launch regulated crypto buy, sell, and custody services; enable 24/7 stablecoin-based funding, payouts, and settlement; and issue and manage tokenized assets with built-in compliance, risk controls, and reporting. By abstracting away technical, regulatory, and operational complexity, zerohash allows partners to treat digital assets as just another financial primitive: fast, programmable, and global. zerohash is trusted by some of the world’s most recognized financial and consumer brands, including Interactive Brokers, Morgan Stanley, Stripe, Franklin Templeton, BlackRock, DraftKings, Gusto, Worldpay, Kalshi, One Pay, among others. Today, zero infrastructure supports millions of end users across brokerage, wealth, payments, and marketplace platforms globally. The company is deeply regulated and compliance-first, operating across the U.S. and internationally with licenses and approvals that allow partners to enter crypto and stablecoins with confidence. zerohash has become a trusted partner for enterprises seeking to modernize financial products while meeting the highest standards for security, risk management, and regulatory oversight. To date, zerohash has raised over $280 million in funding from a mix of leading venture firms and strategic investors, including Morgan Stanley, Interactive Brokers, SoFi, Point72 Ventures, Bain Capital Crypto, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and more. zerohash has been featured in top-tier media outlets such as Bloomberg, CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Reuters, Forbes, and CoinDesk, and its leadership team regularly contributes to global conversations on the future of payments, investing, and financial infrastructure. At zerohash, we're building the infrastructure that makes digital money work securely, compliantly, and at global scale.
