Feyen Zylstra is a team of hardworking doers and thinkers proud to use our brains and brawn to solve the complex problems associated with the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical and low voltage systems. We tend to work in industries like healthcare, industrial manufacturing, commercial, and data centers where our customers benefit most from our technical expertise and the experience we provide them.
We exist to have a positive impact on the lives of people. This starts with our FZers and a commitment to providing safe and energizing work environments, opportunities to learn and grow, and great pay and benefits. It then moves to our customers and a passion for helping them solve their most challenging problems. When we are successful in meeting the needs of our employees and our customers, we have the opportunity to have a positive impact well beyond ourselves in each of the communities where we live and work.
FZ is headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is focused on serving customers throughout Michigan, Tennessee, and the Carolinas.
FZ is looking for a Human Resources Generalist for the Charleston, SC office. This role is a key role for our Charleston, SC branch as you will be the hands-on support for the people side of our business. As the HR Generalist, you will be the trusted HR liaison for the field and office by providing guidance throughout the life cycle of the employee (onboarding, training support, leave administration, employee relations, HR compliance, recruiting support, and more).
What We’re Looking for:
Trusted Partner. With your prior HR experience, you will help promote and reinforce FZ’s values and culture while creating a positive employee experience. Leading with a strong customer service attitude, emotional intelligence, and high integrity, you know when and how to be firm but fair to all. HR roles are always rooted in confidentiality and tact, but here at FZ professionalism is a core value and expected to help us all manage stressful and sensitive situations.
Field Focused. At FZ, being field-first focused is what we strive for at every turn. As the HR Generalist, you will conduct regular field visits (approximately 10-15 hours per week, connecting with employees and leaders in the field) to assess engagement and opportunities for improvement. One day you might be navigating a job site with co-workers and the next day participating in community engagement to help attract your next co-worker.
Process Champion. As part of our greater People Services (HR) team, you will help to locally administer leaves, navigate policies, and keep accurate employment records. Good data helps to drive decisions but also being accurate when it comes to documentation and investigations is the key to HR success. Keeping data clean and accurate means you daily live out our core values of responsiveness and efficiency, but strong organization, follow-up, and self-direction are things you value as well.
Relationship Driven. Whether it’s with your local Charleston or your Michigan-based Human Resources team, you are an approachable, supportive partner, someone who genuinely cares about the people behind the processes and policies. We have high expectations of ourselves and each other but also lead with grace and respect. We know we must lean into healthy conflict at times but also enjoy celebrating our wins together. Your career is a journey, let’s enjoy the ride together.
