Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next. The Content Promotion and Distribution (CPD) Engineering Organization creates technology to set up, promote, and launch content on the Netflix service and off service on social channels. We build products and services that manage a global entertainment catalog and enable our members to discover, choose and talk about the content they can watch or play. Spotlight on Content and Catalog Understanding Engineering Team: Within the CPD organization, the Content and Catalog Understanding Engineering Team is responsible for building technology that enables both human and machine learning-based review of our entertainment catalog to enable classification and categorization. This powers the fundamental building blocks for how member discovery experience is constructed, how we target the right advertisements against the right content, and much more. In this role, you will build workflows that enable: • Tagging content with genres, characters, storylines, and other key dimensions. • Designing, launching, and promoting immersive experiences that captivate global fans. • Creating editorial content that invites fans to connect deeper with their favorite titles. Qualifications • Comfortable working across the full software stack: designing and consuming GraphQL and/or RESTful APIs to power rich client experiences, and building resilient, high-scale, low-latency services in production. • Have recent, hands-on backend experience in Java, C#, or a similar OO language, along with solid OO design principles. • Experience with microservices, data modeling, and API design, and translating business requirements into technical designs and data models. • Understand distributed systems concepts like multithreading, parallelism, and software observability. • Have recent, hands-on experience building complex, high-quality user interfaces with HTML, JavaScript/TypeScript, and CSS, with exposure to React and modern frontend architecture (component design, state management, performance optimization). A strong eye for UI/UX craft. • Able to describe complex technical concepts to cross-functional peers, driving conversations and decisions through written and verbal communication. • Work cross-functionally with design, product, and engineering partners to build, test, deploy, and launch features end to end. • Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident reviews. What Sets You Apart • Curious about a broad range of new or unfamiliar technologies, the consumer base, and product vision. • Seek different perspectives, feedback, and relevant information to continuously grow and improve. • Maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams through clear communication. • Take a thoughtful, practical approach to problem-solving that considers tradeoffs and avoids over-engineering. • Comfortable asking questions and seeking knowledge in unfamiliar or ambiguous situations. • Endeavor to elevate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of yourself and others that are conducive to fostering an inclusive, collaborative environment. A few more things about us: As a team, we come from many different countries and our fields of education range from the humanities to engineering to computer science. Our team includes product managers, program managers, designers, full-stack developers, distributed systems engineers, and data scientists. Folks have the opportunity to wear different hats, should they choose to. We strongly believe this diversity has helped us build an inclusive and empathetic environment and look forward to adding your perspective to the mix! Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $250,000.00 - $413,000.00. This compensation range will vary based on location. Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
