Job description

About the Team: Grindr is an AI-native platform powering how millions of gay people connect globally. With 15M+ monthly users, 130B+ annual messages, and a team of fewer than 200, we move fast, stay lean, and tackle technical problems at a scale few companies ever see. Grindr is building the Global Gayborhood - a more useful, expansive, and intelligent digital home for our community. With more than 80% of our users living outside the United States, we operate at a scale, speed, and level of global complexity few consumer technology companies face. That means significant product innovation, with much of it enabled by AI, across the ways our users discover, connect, communicate, and participate in community. The legal questions are correspondingly interesting and consequential. The Legal team sits at the center of that work, partnering across Product, Engineering, Design, and Trust & Safety. We are looking for an exceptional Product Legal expert to serve as a strategic legal partner to Grindr’s product, engineering, design, and trust and safety teams. This is not a role for someone who wants to review products at the end of the development process. You will help shape product strategy and design from the beginning, identifying issues early, translating complex legal requirements into clear product choices, and helping Grindr move quickly and responsibly through ambiguity. At Grindr, we operate in Grindr Mode. Moderately hardcore day to day, truly hardcore when it counts. It’s about doing great work without burning out. Outcomes over outputs. Smart, driven people who raise your bar, with room to live full lives. This is a hybrid role based in our Los Angeles, SF, NYC or offices and will require you to be in person Tuesdays and Thursdays. About the Job: - Serve as the primary day-to-day legal partner to our Product Development teams (Product Management, Engineering, Design, Data, Trust & Safety) across the full product lifecycle. - Advise on innovative, AI-enabled product features and experiences as we build out the digital global gayborhood, including personalization and recommendations, location-based products, subscriptions and payments, and new growth initiatives. - Help product teams develop clear, user-centered approaches to disclosure, consent, education, and choice. - Serve as the hub connecting Product Development teams with other subject matter experts across the Legal & Privacy team and outside counsel, while retaining issue ownership and driving toward a clear business answer. - Work closely with our dedicated Privacy team on matters involving sensitive data, notice and consent, user controls, data-sharing practices, DSAR rights, and privacy-by-design. - Build and maintain scalable legal tools, playbooks, review processes, and decision frameworks that bring Legal into the right conversations early without slowing the organization down. - Counsel senior stakeholders, including executives and the Board of Directors, on the legal issues most central to Grindr’s next chapter: AI regulation and governance; online safety; age assurance; consumer protection; and platform regulation across the U.S., Europe, India, Brazil, and other key markets. Role Requirements: - At least 8 years of experience, including significant in-house experience, providing product counseling to dynamic consumer internet businesses, with a demonstrated track record of excellence and professional advancement. - Exceptional legal judgment and the ability to turn difficult, unsettled legal questions into practical recommendations that product and business leaders can act on with confidence. - Strong cross-functional instincts and the credibility to partner effectively with product leaders, engineers, designers, and executives. - Demonstrated ability to create clarity and scalable process in fast-moving, ambiguous environments - you know how to keep the organization moving without sacrificing rigor. - J.D. from an accredited law school, a strong academic record, and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. You May Thrive in this Role if You: - Enjoy being close to the product and want to help build, not just review, what Grindr ships to millions of users. - Embrace risk, default toward yes, you find the path that makes something work, and reserve no for when it genuinely matters. - Are energized by hard questions at the intersection of AI, sensitive data, user trust, safety, and consumer technology. You get more curious when the law is unsettled. - Have succeeded in a high-growth, startup-like environment where priorities shift, facts are incomplete, and thoughtful action matters more than perfect process. - Build trust by understanding the product, the user experience, and the business objective, not just the legal doctrine. - Hold a high bar for rigor while being pragmatic, creative, and solutions-oriented. - Are AI-native or rapidly becoming so. You actively use AI tools in your workflow and are always looking for new ways to leverage them. - Care about building technology that serves GBTQ+ people globally, with an appreciation for the particular safety, privacy, and cultural considerations that come with that responsibility. Benefits and Perks: - Health, Dental & Vision Full premium coverage for you. Partial coverage for dependents. - Family Formation Up to $300,000 in fertility and family-building support, covering IVF, surrogacy, egg freezing, and adoption. - Retirement: 401(k) with 6% match and immediate vesting. - Compensation: Industry-competitive compensation, company bonus, and equity for every employee. - Gender-Affirming Care : Industry-leading gender-affirming offerings with up to 90% cost coverage, access to Included Health, monthly stipends for HRT, and more. - Time Off & Rest Flexible vacation policy. Two company-wide rest weeks per year. - Other Benefits: Monthly stipends for cell phone, internet, wellness, food, and commuting, breakfast/lunch About Grindr: Grindr is building the Global Gayborhood in your Pocket. With more than 15 million monthly active users, Grindr has become a fundamental part of the gay community and is charting a path to make the world more free, equal, and just. As a public company, we're moving into the next chapter: becoming an AI-native organization that's redefining what's possible for our community. We're embedding AI into our product and operations, moving with startup speed while operating at scale. Everything we do is rooted in impact for our users and outcomes for the business. This isn't social work, it’s impact through excellence. Business success is what gives us the power to serve our community and the seat at tables others can't reach. How we work is defined by Grindr Mode, our operating model that's moderately hardcore day-to-day and truly hardcore when it counts. We think like owners, drive real outcomes, create clarity through action, and push each other to go further than we thought possible. We’re headquartered in West Hollywood with offices in the Bay Area, Chicago, and New York. Our work extends beyond the product through Grindr for Equality, our social impact initiative that's partnered with 100+ community organizations globally to advance safety, health, and human rights for LGBTQ+ people worldwide. We're profitable, growing, and building a team of smart, driven people who bring different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to the work.
