With 1.2 billion young people reaching working age in the decade ahead, the challenge of job creation has never been greater. Through partnerships across 145 countries and more than 182 offices worldwide, we work with governments, private sector, development partners and other stakeholders to invest in people, strengthen markets, and deliver scalable, data-driven solutions that generate more and better jobs and improve lives. For more information, visit worldbank.org About the Global Environment Facility (GEF) The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is a multilateral financial mechanism created in 1991 to provide grant and concessional funds to recipient countries for projects and programs that address biodiversity loss, climate change mitigation and adaptation, degradation of international waters, land and forests, ozone depletion, elimination or reduction of persistent organic pollutants and mercury, all within the framework of sustainable development. Over the past three decades, the GEF has provided more than $27 billion in financing, primarily as grants, and mobilized another $155 billion for country-driven priority projects. The GEF unites 186 countries in partnership with international institutions, civil society organizations (CSOs), and the private sector to address global environmental issues while supporting national sustainable development initiatives. An independently operating financial organization, GEF is the designated financial mechanism for six multilateral environmental conventions: The Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD), the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Minamata Convention on Mercury, and Agreement on Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ). The GEF Secretariat, construed for administrative purposes as a Vice-Presidential Unit (VPU) within the World Bank, has over 100 professional and administrative and client support staff. In 2023, the GEF established the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund (GBFF) in response to decisions taken at the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The GBFF is part of the GEF family of funds and has its own governance arrangements and project cycle that differ from other GEF funds. In June 2023, the GEF Council approved the arrangements to establish the GBFF and its Programming Directions. The GBFF establishment decision was ratified at the seventh GEF Assembly in August 2023, and the fund was launched. The GBFF Council is its governing body and has been meeting twice a year since February 2024. To date, the GBFF has programmed $362.1 million for 82 projects across 87 countries, supporting the achievement of the targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). Develop familiarity and expertise in navigating, extracting and sorting GBFF programming related data and information in the GEF Portal. • Contribute to the roll-out of the GBFF- and Division-relevant elements of the GEF-9 Country Engagement Strategy (CES), including through analytical inputs and the development of GBFF-specific materials for Extended Constituency Workshops (ECWs), as well as other strategic outreach activities, and in coordination with colleagues across the GEF Secretariat. • Provide analytical support for the implementation of the GBFF Resource Mobilization Strategy, including development of analytical products and briefing materials, and presentations, and analysis of biodiversity finance flows.
