Job description

About Knox Knox runs the largest Federal managed cloud, building and operating secure cloud and AI environments that support the U.S. government’s most critical missions — from national security and public safety to essential public services. Our customers rely on Knox to deploy production systems that meet the highest standards for security, reliability, and compliance. Work at Knox is high-impact and purpose-driven. The problems we solve are high-stakes, the expectations are high, and the results are visible. Speed, rigor, and trust matter here - because the environments we secure cannot fail. Your contributions are visible, your expertise is relied upon, and the impact of your work is immediate and measurable. We operate at federal scale, securing some of the most sensitive government environments in the country - because the systems we build must perform without fail. Knox is building its finance function, and this is the first dedicated inhouse senior accountant hire. You will report to the Controller and together you will decide how the close runs, how AR and AP flow, what gets automated, and what the control environment looks like. This role will play a significant role in setting up finance processes as the company continues its high growth. This is not a role for someone who wants a well-defined role. It is for someone who is eager to set up processes, and who would rather build the repeatable or automated version of a task than do it by hand a second time. Judgment, curiosity about the business, and an inherent need to optimize processes are key. We are building a finance function leveraging a modern, AI native, tech stack. If you’re looking for a role where your work will drive real change and create lasting impact, this is the opportunity for you. Responsibilities - The monthly close: contribute to designing and carrying out the month-end close, with a target of a five-business-day close. - Finance process from a blank page, leveraging a modern tech stack: AP and AR workflows, expense policy, customer billing, vendor onboarding, the monthly hosting-cost pass-through. - Manage the audit request list for your scope and work directly with our auditors and tax advisors. - Coordinate tax and corporate compliance filings with our outside providers. - Partner with the operations administrator on AR and AP. - Contribute to variance analysis and analytical reviews during the month-end close. - Automation: identify the manual steps in the close and billing cycle and remove them, using leveraging our modern tech stack. - Contribute to creating an internal control framework (risk assessments and control implementation). What You Bring - 3+ years of experience in finance operations, accounting or audit. - Proactive mindset, ability to self-start. Ownership mindset with the ability to work effectively in a scale-up environment. - You pick up new systems quickly and prefer to fix the workflow rather than work around it. - A forward-thinking approach, ensuring implemented solutions are scalable for continued growth and evolving needs of the business. - Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize effectively. - You write clearly. Part of the role is explaining numbers to people who do not work in finance. - Ideal, but not required: You have built or rebuilt a finance or operations process end to end. You have been the first person to own something at a company, and it did not bother you. Compensation Range: $100-$125k, variable annual bonus, and equity Benefits & Perks Knox offers a competitive employee benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life & Disability, unlimited PTO, and an employee funded 401k plan. Please note, benefits are subject to change. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Knox is proud to support veteran hiring — we encourage veterans and transitioning service members to apply and welcome the unique skills and experience you bring. Hiring Requirement: Due to the nature of our work with federal government clients and compliance with applicable regulations, this position requires U.S. citizenship. Dual citizenship is not permitted for this role. Candidates must be able to provide documentation verifying sole U.S. citizenship status as part of the background check process. Any offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of all required pre-employment screenings, including a background check, in accordance with applicable laws and government contract requirements.
