Job description

ABOUT TRAVERSAL Traversal traversal.com is the AI Site Reliability Engineer (AI SRE) for the enterprise. Production complexity was already outpacing what engineering teams could manage manually, and AI-generated code is accelerating that gap. Traversal is built for that challenge, autonomously understanding and reasoning across even the largest, most complex production environments to diagnose, fix, and prevent incidents. Our mission is to free engineers from endless firefighting and give them more time to focus on creative, high-impact work. Today, Traversal operates in mission-critical environments at some of the world’s largest enterprises. Our roots remain deeply embedded in AI research, and we’ve brought together researchers from institutions including MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, Columbia, and Cornell with world-class technical staff and operators from companies like Google, Meta, Datadog, ServiceNow, and Citadel Securities to take on one of the hardest problems for AI to solve. Traversal is backed by Sequoia Capital, Kleiner Perkins, Hanabi, NFDG, and American Express Ventures. THE ROLE As a Strategy & Operations hire reporting to the Strategy & Operations Lead, you'll partner on Traversal's highest-priority cross-functional initiatives - from pricing and packaging to getting complex deals across the finish line to making sure we're executing against our annual operating plan. This is a generalist seat, not a narrow lane: you'll be handed ambiguous, high-stakes problems, expected to scope them, build the analysis, and drive them to execution end-to-end. RESPONSIBILITIES - Own cross-functional strategic projects end-to-end - scoping, analysis, and implementation - partnering with Sales, Product, Finance, and Engineering as needed. - Help get complex deals to the finish line - supporting structuring, internal approvals, and cross-functional coordination to clear blockers. - Own key parts of the annual operating plan process: track progress against goals, flag risks early, and help leadership course-correct. - Build financial and operational models to support decision-making across the business. - Build scalable, AI-native systems to streamline workflows and distribute insights across the business. - Act as a thought partner to executives on ambiguous, high-stakes problems - bring structure and a point of view, not just analysis. REQUIREMENTS - 4-6 years of experience, ideally 2-3 years in management consulting, investment banking, or private equity, followed by 1-2 years in an operating role at an early-stage startup. - Track record of owning ambiguous, cross-functional projects end-to-end with minimal oversight. - Strong quantitative and analytical skills; comfortable building structured frameworks from scratch. - Excellent written and verbal communication - able to synthesize complex problems into clear recommendations for executives. - High ownership mentality - bias toward action, comfortable operating with limited process or precedent. - Generalist mindset: excited to work across pricing, deals, planning, and whatever the business needs next, rather than staying in one functional lane. NICE TO HAVE - Financial fluency and experience building models (FP&A, LTV / CAC, pricing models, revenue build, unit economics). - Comfort leveraging AI tools to move faster and raise the quality of output (not slop). - Prior experience in a deal desk, pricing, or GTM strategy function. COMPENSATION We offer competitive compensation, startup equity, health insurance, and additional benefits. The U.S. base salary range for this full-time, in-person role in New York is $175,000–$250,000, plus equity and benefits. Our salary ranges are based on location, level, and role. Individual compensation is determined by experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN US Traversal is a place to take on hard, meaningful problems with real ownership from day one. You'll work alongside people who challenge you to grow, learn constantly, and help define a new category of infrastructure software. We think long term, move quickly, and hold a high bar without taking ourselves too seriously. We offer competitive salary and equity packages, health insurance, fertility benefits, a great tech setup stipend and flexible time off. Plus lunch & dinner, in-office snacks, team happy hours and outings, an annual company offsite, and plenty of built in time to collaborate across teams. Traversal is fully in-office, 5 days a week, based in New York near Madison Square Park. We have a collaborative, hard-working culture and are energized by building the future of AI-powered software maintenance.
